Sunburn

My cheeks are sunburned a bit. I just put some cream on them which makes it feel better. I'd better not forget the suntan lotion the next time. I've been relaxing since I got home. I feel hot because I've gotten burned a bit, but otherwise I feel great. My feet hurt a bit but not that much. I have no other pain to speak of except for the sunburn. I fell asleep for 45 minutes at 4 o'clock. I ate a grilled cheese sandwich at 7:30pm. I skipped lunch today because I wasn't hungry when I first got home. I did eat some peanuts and 2 oranges because I felt that I should have something. I've been listening to the Solid Gold Oldies channel since I got back. I had both doors opened and now only have one opened. The fan in the DR is doing a good job of keeping me cool. I've showered and washed my hair. Just trying to get up the energy to set the hair. Yes, I'll be sleeping on rollers, but I've done that before. I'm wishing that I had some Noxema. That always worked for sunburn when I was a teen. I'll have to pick some up tomorrow. I will not play golf without suntan lotion the next time.

18 Holes

We started playing golf at about 10:00am. We met at 9:30 and drove to the course. I was home from playing 18 holes of golf at 2pm. I think that it took about 3 hours for us to walk the 18 holes. Last fall when we first walked this course we only did 9 holes so I feel good that we did 18 this time. Actually, you pay for 18 so you might as well do the 18. At about the 10th hole I took a 5 minute break and sat down for a spell. I had a bottle of water which helped quench my thirst. By the time we reached the 17 and 18th holes, the sun had gone in a little and there was a cool breeze so I still felt pretty good. The sun returned again on our walk back to the car. It was quite warm in the sun. I foolishly forgot to put suntan lotion on my arms which I will do the next time so I got a little color today. It was a great day. We didn't even have to stop and let anyone play through. We were keeping up with the flow. Besides walking, there is a lot of bending to place the ball and to pick it up when you've gotten it in the hole. It was great exercise for me. We will try to play once a week. When the weather gets in the 90's I won't be able to do 18 holes because of the heat, but I'll do 9 at least. If there's no humidity I can do more. What a wonderful way to spend a perfect weather day!

Golf

Tomorrow is a golf day. The weather will be warm. I hope there is a breeze. We've decided to walk the course instead of riding. I'm looking forward to a day with my friend walking in a park-like atmosphere and swinging at that little ball every so often. ( I'm using lime green in my typing in honor of my lime green golf cart and the lime green outfit I'll wear tomorrow. ) No, that is not a uniform and I don't always match my golf cart.
Today I cleaned in the kitchen. Washed the floor and did a few other little things.
I'm watching Dylan Ratigan's show right now. He's giving me a headache. There is a demonstration March on Wall Street where he is reporting from. It's quite noisy!
I'm in the process of changing the sheets. I've taken the old ones off the bed and needed to wait for Coco to leave the bed so I can put the clean sheets on. She likes to jump on the sheets and blankets while I'm making the bed. I'll try to sneak in there again when she falls asleep on the couch she has just gotten up on.
Have already eaten supper. I made a quick grilled cheese sandwich. Will have popcorn later in the evening.

A Tiring Day

The LR/DR has been done. I've done some laundry. Tomorrow I'll wash the floors and I'll be done. This evening I feel like just relaxing and watching the tube. It's too bad that there's not much worth watching on the TV. The cats kept me company in the LR today. They slept all afternoon. I had a music channel on while I cleaned. After lunch I sat down to watch the news and then put the music channel on again. I have to confess I did fall asleep this afternoon in the recliner. That's probably because I got up at 3:45am. I hope that I can sleep longer tomorrow and not need a nap.

Ready To Start The Day?

Listening to Solid Gold Oldies right now. I've had four hours sleep. I'm sure that I'll dose off while watching Morning Joe. I hate it when I do that, however. I enjoy the show so much that I don't want to miss anything by sleeping through it.
After the morning show I'll be starting to clean. I'm hosting MJ next Tuesday. Since my weekend will be busy, I'd like to have everything done before the weekend. I'm hoping that I can get my hair done tomorrow. I may not be lucky enough to get an appointment at this late date. Maybe there will be a cancellation. One can always hope.
This evening I will knit. The house should be in order and I can relax with my knitting. The shawl I'm working on is so pretty. I love the yarn I'm using. I haven't been so excited about knitting before. It's fun to watch the project coming to completion. It's on to the next beautiful one after the present one is done. I'd like to find this yarn in a yellow. That'll be beautiful as well. Happy knitting!!

Home Again

It's always nice to come home again. It's been a busy couple of days. Did some stuff for Mom yesterday. Today I played Mah Jongg. I even won one game. Tomorrow is a free day for me and I plan to clean the house. I look forward to getting everything the way I like it to be again. I will also knit when I can fit it in to my day.
I'm looking forward to playing golf later in the week. The weather promises to be fantastic. Come on May!! More great weather.

Fun In The City

It's a rainy day today, but I don't mind. I went to the 8:30am mass and read today. Since I had such a long day yesterday I was worried that I'd over sleep this morning and be late for church. Thanks to Sandy, that didn't happen.
D. and I went into NYC yesterday to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and then down to the Salmagundi Club for a watercolor show. It was a beautiful day yesterday. The city was very crowded. Everyone was out walking, shopping, and hustling from here to there. I enjoyed the museum and also the watercolor exhibit. D. and I managed to sneak a nap on the bus on the ride home. I arrived home at about 6:45pm and needed to go out again to play Pinochle. I did manage to do that and even won the second game that we played. When I returned home from that I took my shower, did my hair and went to bed by 11:30pm. I fell asleep right away. I had a lot of fun yesterday. It was a full day and one which I thoroughly enjoyed.

It's Here!

The washer/dryer is connected now. I've done 2 loads so far and have a 3rd in the machine. The tub isn't that large, but it's ok. I'll just have to do laundry more frequently. Later today I will wash the kitchen floor and the foyer floor. I'll feel free to go out and have a fun day tomorrow after at least doing that much. I did manage to knit this morning while I waited for the delivery. I'll do a bit more later this evening.
D. and I will go to the museum tomorrow and later in the evening I'll play Pinochle with another group of friends. I'm hoping that someone wins the game early so I can get to bed at a reasonable hour since I'll need to get up early on Sunday. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.
It's a beautiful day today. The sun is shining, there is a gentle breeze and I'm able to have the front door opened. I love spring!!!

Nothing Is Easy

Well, nothing is easy. The delivery men said that I had to go back to the store and get a smaller washer/dryer unit which I did do this morning. So, correction, the appliance will be delivered tomorrow instead of today.
What did I do for the rest of the day? Not much, but the day went quickly. I'll do some food shopping tomorrow and also do some laundry. Can't wait until I can do that at home again. I'll also do some ironing tomorrow.
Saturday is a fun day with a friend and also a Pinochle evening with other friends. On Sunday I read at church. I look forward to a great weekend.

A Very Full Day

We spent the entire day waiting for tests to be done. When we arrived home we decided to get something delivered for supper. Shortly after supper I went out to the Prayer Shawl Meeting. It's always nice to be at this meeting because the group of women are so nice and pleasant to be around. I arrived home just about a half hour ago. I've put my nightgown on and am just going to relax for the rest of the evening.

Tuesday

This morning I went out and purchased a new washer and dryer. It will be delivered in a few days and I'll be able to do laundry again. Eureka! Didn't even have a stream nearby so I could rub the clothes on a rock. Had to depend on the good nature of my sister.
This afternoon I typed the minutes from Friday's Guild Meeting. It took longer than usual. I stopped to prepare tomato soup and grilled cheese for Mom and me. After lunch I got back to my typing. Alas, the minutes were finally done and sent to our President for her approval. I have two more meetings for which I'll need to type the minutes, then it's someone elses turn to be secretary. Hurray!!!
Tomorrow Mom has some testing done. I hope that all goes well. She'll be exhausted from the ordeal, I'm sure. I hope to go to the Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting later in the day.
The Washer and Dryer will be delivered on Thursday. I'll be happy to do laundry after that. I really missed not being able to do laundry at my place. What a luxury which I definetly took for granted.
I'll get back to my knitting tomorrow while I wait at the doctor's office and on Thursday while I'm doing laundry.
The bonus is that the weather will be beautiful tomorrow. It'll be in the 70's they promised. I'll be able to open the doors and smell the fresh air of spring.

The Days Fill In Quickly

Today was a visit the doctor day for Mom. For some reason it wasn't as painful as it usually is. In a few days we'll have to repeat the process and go for another medical evaluation. I hope that is also painless.
I'm hoping that I can get my hair done later in the week. A friend and I will be going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a few days, and on Sunday it's my turn to read at church again. Pinochle with friends is in the near future also. I guess I'll take Mom for her blood test on Monday and then I can take her home again. It's not so easy to find a free day on the calendar any more. There's always something that has to be done either for Mom or for myself. In a few weeks it's back to the doctor again. I'm wondering if they really need to see her as much as they say. Oh well, when duty calls..

The Govenor's Mansion

This afternoon, E. and I and 5 of the Red Hatters attended a lecture at Drumthwacket. Drumthwacket is the Govenor's Mansion in N.J. The speaker was Ulysses Grant Dietz who co-authored at book entitled, "Dream House: The Whitehouse As An American Home". The lecture was well attended and was very interesting. The afternoon started with a reception with light refreshments. I had a glass of iced tea and a chocolate chip cookie. After the lecture the author signed copies of his book which was for sale. Luckily, I had previously purchased the book somewhere else and got a discounted price. I showed up with my book, receipt in hand, and it was signed. Ulysses Grant Dietz is also the curator of the Newark Museum where you can visit the Ballantine House. The Ballantine's were a wealthy family who lived in Newark in it's Day. The house is a Victorian House and gives a good example of how the people lived at that time in our history. If you ever have a chance to visit the museum and the adjacent Ballantine House, it will be a visit you are sure to enjoy.
I was drawn to this lecture because the speaker is the great great grandson of President Ulysses S. Grant who was also a Civil War general. Since I am a student of History, it was exciting to meet the name sake of one of our presidents. Having studied the Civil War a bit, the fact that the authors great great grandfather was a general in that war also intrigued me. I enjoyed Mr. Dietz references to his great great grandfather and great great grandmother, Julia and their contribution to the Whitehouse as a home. I look forward to reading the book and learning more.

Red Hat Event

There was not much going on today. We spent a quiet day at home. Tomorrow is a Red Hat event. I'll attend church in the morning then stop to pick up the Sunday paper for Mom. Later in the afternoon, some friends and I will attend a lecture, reception, and book signing. I look forward to it.

It's Been A Busy Week

What a busy week it has been. I haven't had time to write since Monday. Today was our Quilt Guild meeting. I got home from the lecture at about 1pm. Last night I completed the 2 BOM for today's meeting. I didn't win the drawing however. So, I'm going to make the BOM for next week and maybe I'll have better luck with the drawing. Next months block is Red, White and Blue. I'd be happy winning that one also. I also have to make a block for our outgoing President because we always present them with a block from all the members from which they can make a quilt to remember their tenure as President. Someone else has volunteered to be the secretary for next year so I'm off the hook as far as that is concerned. Maybe I'll be able to devote the time I spent typing minutes to quilting projects for community service or BOM. I'd like to do more of the workshops next year also.
This past Tuesday was the Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting. It was a productive business meeting with the president of the DOM present and also Sister J. They said that they will help fund us in the future. They loved the shawls and lap blankets we had on display. They chose my Shawl in the "Waterfall" yarn to be a gift for the Communtion Breakfast in June. I felt good about that. They also liked the lap blanket I made in the same type variegated yarn. It's small and is going to be good for someone in a wheelchair.
On Wednesday I went down to Mom's so I could put her garbage out in the evening. I stayed overnight so that I could bring the cans in on Thursday Morning. I also stayed until after lunch which was a request from her. When I left her home I stopped at F. She was having some of the gals over for a quilting day. Since I got there at 1:15pm instead of 10:00am, I didn't quilt, but decided to work on my knitting. Two other women also knitted instead of quilting.
This Sunday is our Red Hat outing after church. Our shawls will be on display at every mass and father is going to bless them. He will also bless our hands. P. and I will attend the same mass that morning. I'm looking forward to the brief attention our ministry will receive. Maybe we'll get more members to join us. We only have 10 people doing the knitting and crocheting so far. There will also be a blurb in the church bulletin which will give information about the Prayer Shawl Ministry.
It's been a very busy week, but one which I have enjoyed. I'm glad that all weeks aren't that busy, however.

A Traumatic Day For Coco

Took Coco for her shots today. She was also groomed which consisted of getting a lion cut. She's been sticking to me like glue since I brought her home. When Sandy saw her new do he left the LR and has been in the bedroom ever since. He probably thinks it's a different cat.
Nothing much else was accomplished today. I spoke to Mom on the phone. Checked emails and snail mail.
Tomorrow the plumber is coming. I hope that he gets my washer working. I have laundry to wash. Will meet with the PSM tomorrow also. I need to get back to my knitting. There are also 2 quilt blocks to make for Friday's meeting. I'm hoping to get at least one done tomorrow. I can do the other on Thursday when we meet for quilting at F.'s home. There will be fellow quilters there to help if I have any problems with the block. It's going to be a busy week. It'll also be a lot of fun.

Another Beautiful Sunday

This morning I attended the 8:30 mass. I was asked to assist a "lector in training". I reviewed what she had to do with her. She was very nervous. Luckily, the gentleman who was assigned to be today's lector arrived before mass so she didn't need to do it on her own.
After mass I headed down to PQW and purchased a quilt book which the author signed. Shortly after arriving home, I put the Masters Golf Tournament on the TV. It's still going on. The soft voices of the commentators put me to sleep until 4:15pm. I went out like a baby. I have a tiny bit of a headache and my face is swollen where the dentist did the work inside my mouth. I'm sure that's why it was so easy to fall asleep. Sandy and Coco were good little kittens and slept while I did. It was very peaceful here.
I've eaten supper and all I have left to do is to clean up the kitchen. I will do that shortly. I have no plans for the rest of the evening.

A Relaxing Saturday

Early this morning I drove Mom's car back and D. picked me up to bring me home. That was a big favor to me. What was even better was that he showed me how to view a DVD on my new TV. I had gotten 2 from the library recently and although the DVD player worked, I couldn't get a picture on the TV. Now, finally, I know how to get the thing to play the movie. That mystery solved!
Watched a bit of the Masters today, didn't do much else. Right now, the cats are napping somewhere. It's very quiet. Before they retired they played a game of tag and chased each other all over the place. I'm glad that that game ended. I'm always afraid that they'll knock something over or break something when they do that.
Tomorrow I may go to the PQW again. They are having an author on the premises to sign his books. I don't need another quilt book but thought it might be fun to see what's available. This author also has some of his yarn at the yarn shop next door. I was told that the store is having a sale on his yarn tomorrow to honor the occasion. I'm sure that it'll still be very expensive. I had planned on making a sweater using some of the yarn but never purchased the yarn. I doubt that I'll be buying any tomorrow either. It'll be fun to look just the same. I'm sure the events will attract quite a crowd. I may not even get a parking space. Time will tell.

Free To Enjoy The Week

The day is flying by. I did some errands, returned a cd to the library and picked up some milk. This afternoon I went to PQW to get a few small pieces of material for the BOM I need to make for next Friday. I'm hoping that I win the blocks this month. I like the pattern and the fabric. I'll have to cut and sew the blocks on Monday and Tuesday because I'm free from obligations on those two days. I have a plumber coming next week and have to take Coco for her shots. Later in the week, a friend is having a quilting day at her home and on Friday our Quilt Guild meets again. Since I'm the secretary I'll have to take notes. The Prayer Shawl Ministry also meets next week and I know there's something on Wednesday although I can't recall what right now. Busy, busy, busy week next week. I'm actually free to enjoy it all.
I straightened the bedroom this morning. Later I'll do some knitting. I haven't done much lately. I'm looking forward to the meeting next week. Bring on the fun!!!!

A Dentist Visit

This morning I went to the dentist. He worked on 4 different teeth while I was there. The left side of my face was numb until this afternoon. I didn't do much today except sleep and listen to music. I missed the meeting tonight because I was still headachey. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll feel better.
Yesterday D. and I went to the Morris Museum to view the Art Quilts which are on display. They were beautiful. We stopped for a salad after leaving the museum. It was a beautiful weather day. The temps were high, but since there was no humidity I didn't mind. It's in the 80's today. Tomorrow we're back down in the 60's. I'll take that too. I'm listening to the Solid Gold Oldies on the tv. As always, they bring back many memories. Good memories only accepted!

Day Is Done

The sun is setting. The sky has a pink/blue hue at the horizon. It's been peaceful here all day. I've been listening to music inside while the birds have been chirping outside. Coco and Sandy napped for most of the day but would come out occasionally to sit in the doorway and watch what was going on outside. When they had enough of that they'd disappear again for awhile. I feel peaceful myself today. Working around the house all day has done that for me. The monotony of tv has not had a chance to ruin a perfect day. As a matter of fact I've decided to continue to listen to music and when I'm done I'll go to bed. Tomorrow, D. and I are going to the Museum to view Art Quilts. We are both quilters but don't usually make art quilts. Ours are more the patchwork variety. We do appreciate the quilting talent of other quilters. Some people are unbelieveable. There is a lot of talent out there. Tomorrow promises to be another beautiful day. There may be a chance of thunderstorms however. I'm hoping that Mom's power doesn't go out because she won't be able to use her oxygen machine and I won't be there to "rescue" her.

It's Another Awesome Day!

The weather is awesome today. The sun is shining. It's in the 70's. I can see the forsythia out side my window. The birds are busy. I even saw a Goldfinch this morning. It is our state bird but is rarely seen around here. It was quite beautiful.
I've been cleaning today. I took Mom home yesterday. There's a lot to do to get the place in order. We were suppose to play MJ here today but we didn't have enough people to play the game so we cancelled for today. I've been cleaning ever since. I have too much "stuff" out to get dusty, that's the problem. All the decanters and the punch bowl and some teapots have to be washed again. I've dusted the LR/need to dust the DR. I've done all the vacuuming. When I get done with the DR I have to wash the kitchen floor. I'm planning on getting down on my hands and knees to do the job. That's the best way to get the job done well. It's a lot of work though and my knees take a beating. Can't wait until the kitchen is done. I can relax after that is done. I haven't knitted in a week. I'll save the bedroom for another day.

Easter Sunday 2010

Today was a beautiful, warm Easter day. The events of the day were awesome. I went to mass this morning. The church was beautifully decorated with live flowers. The people were happy and friendly today. "Happy Easter" was being said as the morning greeting. It was a Happy Easter for me. I happened to be the Lector at the mass I attended. That worked out well today.
This afternoon, Mom and I went to D and E's home for dinner. We had a nice time. After returning home, the West Virginians called to wish us a Happy Easter. Mom was able to speak to each of her Great Grandchildren which she seemed to enjoy. This will be an Easter to remember, some of them are.

Good Friday

Tonight there was another service at church for Good Friday. I attended the service. It was another beautiful service. I'm glad I went.
Today was a quiet day for us. It was also a beautiful weather day. Inspite of the fact that it would have been a good day to take a walk, I did not. Tomorrow I won't have time for a walk. I'll be baking and making salads for our Easter dinner. Before I start that I'll go out for the paper and to pick up something else we need. I'm hoping to get the baking done quickly, but it's a new recipe and I've never made it before. We'll see how it goes. After my kitchen duties are over I'll clean the kitchen so that will be one less room I'll need to do on Monday. Tuesday I'm hosting MJ. I'll be having 6 friends over that day. Need the place to be ship shape. On Wednesday, another friend and I are visiting a nearby museum to view the quilts which are on display. On Thursday it's back to the dentist. Friday is open and so is the weekend. The possibilities are endless.

A Beautiful Service

Went to mass tonight. The service was beautiful. The choir sang beautifully. I stayed for adoration after mass. It was a very spiritual experience. I wish for more such feelings.

A Lovely Day

A friend and I went to lunch a a local tea room. It was a delightful lunch in a lovely setting. We caught up on each other's news since we haven't gotten together since we played golf in the fall. It's almost time to play golf again. I'm looking forward to a great season. It would be great to be able to play at least once a week. Perhaps that way I'll have improved by the time the season ends. If I'm lucky I'll retain some of the skill I've gained for when it's time to play again next year.

April Fools Day

Picked up the paper for Mom. Need to do a couple of errands today, then I'm meeting a friend for lunch. We had scheduled lunch three different times in February but we got snowed out. Today the sun is shining so we should be able to get together.
Yes, it is April Fools Day. The kids must be having fun in school today. I was always happy when April 1st fell on a weekend day. Didn't have to deal with it then.
It's also Holy Thursday in the Christian calendar. There are services at local churches today. It's a beautiful, sunny day. The temps should reach the 70's. As a matter of fact it will be so for the next few days. I'm very thankful for this beautiful weather. We deserve it.
