A New Me For A Day

On Friday I had my hair done, finally. I feel so much better now. I also went to a local department store and had my makeup done. They had called me a week ago and set up the appointment. It looked very good. I only bought an eyeliner pencil to replace another which had gotten to be as short at 2 inches. It's a color I love and I use it every day. The gal at the store said it was there most popular color. Cosmetics are sooooo expensive. I'm sure they're over priced. They also used some skincare products on me which I liked, but they were out of reach of my pocketbook. I'll go get my usual at the local drugstore and save about $100. I checked my stash of lipsticks when I got home. I don't really need a new one even if it is the latest color for fall. I don't need any eyeshadows either. I even have one similar to the one they used on me. Afterall, how many different shades or colors of eyeshadow can there be? It was fun, though, to have the makeup done by a visiting makeup artist. He did a very good job selecting the colors and a new shade of foundation for me. I didn't buy that either. Maybe when my ship comes in.

Friends

Good friends got together for a sad occasion today. The father of one of our friends has died and we attended the funeral. We celebrated the life of my friend's father and afterward got together to comfort the family. It's always good to see old friends although we would prefer getting together for a happier occasion. Maybe we could arrange that before too long. The town we were in today is quaint and would be a nice place to meet for lunch. Afterward we could go in and out of the unique stores and window shop. It would be a nice thing to do before the summer comes to an end.

A Boring Day!

Today was a boring day. There are not too many of those, as a matter of fact I can't remember the last one I've experienced. I was even too bored to knit. It could be the "forced" company I had to endure. I look forward to my birthday in two weeks. I hope that I get to spend it alone. The alternative is not too appealing.

The Week To Come

The weekend has arrived. I'll be involved with family activities until Monday morning. However, I am looking forward to next week. I'm playing MJ on Tuesday, will attend the Warren County Fair on Wednesday, On Friday I will have a "make over" of sorts at L&T. Our Pinochle game was cancelled for Friday night. I'm hoping to have my hair done either on Friday or Saturday. Hopefully, next weekend I'll be able to see my friends and spend some time with them. That's always fun.

Thee Crossword Puzzle

This afternoon, three of us sat down and tried to solve the Sunday NY Times Crossword Puzzle. We didn't get too many answers for this first try at the puzzle, but we laughed so hard at our attempts, that we cried. The laughter was very welcomed. The crossword puzzle which we do in the daily paper is doable. We thought we had graduated to the NY Times. What a challenge! We're not giving up, however, we'll attempt next weeks puzzle with as much passion. Hopefully we'll get a few more answers than we did today. Does anyone out there do the NY Times puzzle? We have a few spaces to fill in. I guess we'll check it next week when they publish the answers. It's hard to wait a whole week.

I took a short nap earlier and now that it's time to go to bed for the night, I'm not tired. What I should do, is get out the knitting. My eyes aren't sleepy anymore and I could probably do several rows. If I can find a comfortable place to sit for awhile, I may do just that. Until then, I'm searching for something to say. Coco and Sandy are usually at my side when I'm on the computer. They are not in the room now, but I bet if I went into the bedroom I'd find them both on the bed waiting for me to call it a day. E. is coming over for a visit tomorrow. That'll give Mom someone else to talk to for a change. After the doctor appointment I'll have to go to the store to get something for supper. I wish I had a new menu idea. Sometimes it gets boring cooking the same things all the time. Oh, well, I guess I'll sleep on it.

Wednesday

We went to the doctor appointment for Mom. It was just a follow-up, but he's scheduled 2 new tests for her to have in a couple of weeks. Tomorrow we go to the pulmonary doctor. I hope he doesn't decide to send her for tests too. In a couple of weeks I have to schedule some tests for myself as per one of my doctors. This going to doctors gets "old" real fast. I guess we have to go because we're also getting old real fast.
My friend came over for a visit today. It's always nice to see her. Her baby afghan is very colorful and quite pretty. She's crocheting hers. I'm knitting mine. I don't know how to crochet, but wouldn't mind learning. I saw some cute bibs for sale in the yarn shop. All that needs to be done is for someone to crochet edging on them. What a nice gift they'd make for our new baby due in August. I'm thinking that maybe my sister-in-law would be able to finish them off. I'll have to ask her if she'd like me to get them for her. I hope she says, "yes".

Tuesday, Tuesday

It rained as predicted today. It was a light rain without thunder and lightning. I went out to the store this morning accompanied by an umbrella. I spent most of the remainder of the day knitting. I want to get about 4 more rows in today. Tomorrow I've invited my friend A. over for awhile so that we can visit again before she leaves for FL. We'll both work on our baby afghans while we visit. I'll serve iced tea with cake. I look forward to her visit. The visit will be in the afternoon. I need to take Mom for a doctor appointment in the morning. We'll come home after that and eat lunch. A. will visit later.

Monday, Monday

We celebrated D.'s birthday today. Tomorrow is the real bd. He had a nice time here and enjoyed the ice cream cake. He received many cd's for his bd so he asked to go home early so that he could listen to the music. He DOES enjoy his music.
Tomorrow is a relatively "free" day for me. I have absolutely nothing on my calendar. I'll have to prepare meals for Mom and pick up her meds, but the rest of the day should be mine. I plan to get a lot of knitting done. I'm also hoping that my friend A. calls before she has to leave for FL in a few days. If she does, I'll invite her over for some iced tea and conversation. She can bring her crochet project and I can knit.
The temps will be in the 70's tomorrow. We may get some rain I believe. I hope that I get a lot of knitting done on the baby afghan. There is another in my future after this one.

Back Home Again

We arrived home this afternoon at about 12:30pm. M. has a few doctor appointments this week. There is also a family birthday to celebrate tomorrow. While at Mom's I got a lot done on A.'s baby quilt. It's going to be very pretty in pink and white. Since Coco and Sandy have been following me around all day since I've been at home, I haven't been able to pick up the knitting. When they finally settle down I hope to get back to it. There must have been a storm while I was gone because my printer is on the fritz. I have no idea what is wrong with it. I'm hoping that it can be fixed. There'll be a lot to do this week. I hope that I get some "down" time to relax and do something I'd like to do.

Another Nice Day

Met L. for lunch today. We had a nice chat. I hadn't seen her for a long time. We may get together in a couple of weeks to go to the driving range which I badly need before I hit the real golf course. Tomorrow is my cleaning day. I hope to get the house done before lunch. Then I'll knit for the rest of the afternoon.

Quilting Today

The quilting experience was fulfilling today. I got a lot of my white on white done. We sat on F's porch without having any windows or the door opened. I thought it was very hot, but so many of the ladies are always cold so I had to learn to suffer in silence. I found it necessary to drink several glasses of water at lunchtime to hydrate myself. The first 2 people left at 3:00pm and I left at 3:30pm. When I got home, I sat in the recliner and fell asleep for an hour. I was awakened by a phone call from a friend who wants to have lunch tomorrow. We had planned to go to the driving range, but it's suppose to rain tomorrow.
After a light supper, I cast on the 97 stitches needed to make the next afghan. I'll start it tomorrow morning before I go out to lunch. As I've probably stated before, this afghan will be pink and white and will be for a little girl. There is a 5th afghan in my future which I'll make for a friend's grandson who was born yesterday. I'd like to make that one blue and white.
I broke down and put on the AC about a half hour ago. I know that it's not hot outside, but it seems to be hot in here. Hopefully, it'll cool down soon and I'll get a relaxing night's sleep.

I usually get up at 6:00am to watch "Morning Joe". Today I found out that Willy Geist will start a half hour before that at 5:30am with "Way Too Early". I'd like to view this before the gang starts at 6:00am. The cats usually awaken me about 4:00 or 5:00am so I'm sure I'll be able to catch it on July 27th. Of course, I'll probably nap for a few minutes from time to time all through the 2 shows. You see, I don't go to bed early enough to get up at that hour.

An All Day Quilting Bee

Today I had big plans of cleaning the house, but nothing got done because I was given something else to do. Right now I'm exhausted! However, I'm finishing up some laundry, doing the dishes in the dishwasher and will plan to get a few cleaning chores done tomorrow before I leave the house. I will spend most of the day tomorrow at a friend's home. We are getting together to quilt all day long. I should get a lot of my white on white quilt done there. I'm looking forward to the commaraderie of my fellow quilters. Good ideas always abound when we get together also.

A Nice Time

This morning I met A. at Michael's craft store. We browsed the yarn department where my friend found some colorful yarn with which to crochet a baby blanket. From that store we drove down to the quilt shop and the yarn shop which happen to be right next to one another. I came home with a knitting magazine containing colorful sweaters. Neither of us bought anything in the quilt shop, but what fun it is to just look at all the beautiful projects one could make, or at all the beautiful fabrics one could buy. The quilt shop sells Bernina sewing machines and even had a long arm machine on display. That machine would be useful if you quilted your own quilts, or if you had a quilting business, and quilted things for others. It was about $9000. for that machine alone. Quite a price, I'd say. I'll stick with my Viking sewing machine and if I want a more professional look to my quilts, I'll send them out to be quilted. I'm sure I wouldn't spend $9000 for doing that in the rest of my lifetime. It's always fun to see A. I miss her since she's been in FL. Perhaps if and when she relocates, I'll get to see her more often.

A Nice Afternoon

Today I attended a very nice baby shower. The table I sat at was filled with delightful people. There was good conversation and good food. The Mom from the last baby shower was there with her adorable twins. It was so nice to see them. The expectant Mom was radiant. She liked the yellow and white afghan. I gave the second afghan in blue and yellow to her sister who had the twins in May. She hadn't had a chance to look at it as we put it into her trunk before we entered the shower. I hope that she likes it. I prefer that afghan with 1 of the yarns being white and the other a color, but the blue and yellow is pretty just the same. It's always great to see my friend and her family. It was an enjoyable afternoon.

Another Lazy Day

Today was another lazy day. I didn't go out at all except to get the mail. I finished what needed to be done on the afghan and it seemed like I napped on and off for the rest of the afternoon. Sandy napped on the wing chair and Coco napped on the couch. It was very quiet outside today so my napping wasn't interrupted which was good since I got no sleep last night. I hope to do better tonight. I did give myself a manicure and a pedicure and found the outfit I'll wear tomorrow to the baby shower.
Tomorrow morning I'll do the floors with the vacuum and the sweeper. After that's done I'll take my shower and wash my hair. I'll even be able to return 3 books to the library. A friend is up from FL visiting with her children this week. Hopefully, we'll be able to get together in a few days. She wants to visit the quilt shop and the yarn shop just to look. She wants me to go with her so we'll be able to 'catch-up" on each other's news. I look forward to our getting together.

Wide Awake

It's past the midnight hour. I'm wide awake. I've been going from one site to another on the computer. I guess that most people are all tucked in bed by this time. They'll be no new emails until the sun comes up. I'm running out of things to do in this wide awake state. Perhaps I'd better give it another try. Mr. Sandman bring me a dream.

Camera Shy?

Does anyone out there have any "good" pictures of me? I need one for a specific purpose which I'll share later. I don't have any current pictures. Maybe I'll see if I can get one taken this weekend with my digital camera. They aren't usually very flattering, however. Oh, well. Perhaps the days of "good" pictures are over for me, but one can always hope.

Frustration

When I returned from the shore at 3:30pm I found that I didn't have phone service or internet service. My cell phone needed to be charged which took longer than I had hoped it would. Finally, I was able to call the cable company and got my service restored at about 6:30pm. It was quite frustrating to be without the phone and the internet. Tonight I have to get to work on my knitting. I have only 6 more rows to do and I've completed another beautiful afghan. All that's left to do is to sew the label onto the afghan and put it into a gift box. The baby shower is this Saturday.

Fun With Friends

We played MJ today. There were 4 of us playing and we got in 8 games. I won 4 of the games. That's a record for me. I've never won that many games in one afternoon before. There was a thunderstorm coming from the west so we stayed longer than usual to play today just so we wouldn't be driving into the storm. Usually we play until about 3:30 but we played an extra hour today until the sun began to shine again. One of the gals got a call from her husband. He told her to stay put and wait for the storm to pass. That was good advice. In a little while I'm going to start my knitting.
Tomorrow I plan to go back down the shore and stay overnight at Mom's. I'll be able to take the garbage out and take her to do her errands. The rest of the time tomorrow will be spent finishing an afghan. The baby shower is this Saturday. I want the project done by Friday so I can sew my label on it. On Sunday I plan to start the pink and white afghan for P and A's new baby which is due in August. After that's done, it's on to mittens with the left over yarn.

The Bewitching Hour

It's fast approaching the bewitching hour of midnight. I tried sleeping but am wide awake so I got out of the bed and here I am blogging. I don't have much to say but maybe if I type for awhile something will come to me. I'm sitting in the recliner and listening to the Easy Listening music channel. There may be something more entertaining on the TCM channel, I'll have to try that if sleep doesn't come from listening to relaxing music. If I don't get to sleep soon I'll probably fall asleep playing MJ tomorrow. I'm hoping for at least one win tomorrow. We'll get in several games because there are only four of us playing tomorrow. I've missed several Italian classes because I've had to take Mom to doctors and for tests. I'm going to check to see if the class meets all summer. I may decide to start back again in September when hopefully, they'll be starting at the beginning of the book. Starting at chapter 26 was kind of hard. There is a conflict twice a month with my MJ group also. I've been playing and leaving early so that I can get to class. Sometimes I feel that that's too much rushing around in one day. Strange, but my TV keeps shutting off. I put it back on again and a couple of minutes later, it goes off again. It's quite annoying. I hope that the set isn't going. Maybe it's a cable problem. Oh, well, I guess I've rambled enough for one blog. I'll say good night and hope that sleep comes soon.

Another Beautiful Weekday.

This morning I took Mom back to her home. I did some grocery shopping for her and some laundry. We had lunch together then I came home. Since I've been home, I've done some knitting while listening to music. I shut off the AC because it's not too hot out. I had it on for Mom's visit, but I find that I can get along with the ceiling fan on and the two doors opened. When we get weather in the 90's with high humidity, I'll put the AC on for me. Until then, it'll remain off except for when Mom visits. I made a few phone calls this evening. I may go to pitch and putt next week or to the driving range with two former colleagues, weather permitting. It'll be the first time I'm getting out to do something associated with golf this summer. It will be a fun day.
Tomorrow I have a dental appointment and I will play Mah Jongg with friends after that appointment. I'm looking forward to playing.

A Lazy Day

Today was a beauty in the weather department. I read at the 10:30 am mass in my church. On the way home I picked D. up to bring him over for a visit. He stayed 2 hours and wanted to be taken home again. I took him back home. When I returned to my home I decided to take a nap. So, it was really an uneventful day for the most part. Now that supper is over and the dishes are done, I will devote the rest of the evening to my knitting project. At 9:00 pm we'll watch Masterpiece Theater. An Agatha Christie story with Miss Marple will be playing. They do such a good job on those. It's very entertaining..

Independence Day 2009

It was a beautiful day today. The family was over for awhile. We watched A Capitol Fourth and now have on the Macy's fireworks. I've been waiting for the Boston Pops 4th of July celebration to come on, but I'm afraid that we're not going to get to see the entire evenings performance here in NJ. For some reason, for the past few years, the stations choose not to show that celebration in it's entirety, Much to my disappointment.
All in all, it was a relaxing day today. I did get some knitting done, watched some TV movies about our Revolution and even got in a short nap.
On Sunday I'm going to read at the 10:30 am mass at my church. I don't usually read at that mass, but the morning will not be so rushed because it's not the first mass of the day. I'm hoping that Sunday, a day of rest will be just that.

The Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July, tomorrow. It's suppose to be a nice weather day. We're having an indoor picnic. No outside grilling allowed at our complex. They'll probably be sports on the TV to watch tomorrow. I plan to watch the Boston Pops concert tomorrow night. A 4th of July favorite of mine. I will also take time to work on my knitting during the day. It will just be a day of relaxing with the family. In order to have a relaxing day tomorrow, I'll be making salads tonight. Macaroni Salad, cole slaw and potato salad are on the menu. We've decided to have hot dogs and beans with our salads.
Have a Happy Independence Day!

A Productive Day

Today I did 12 rows on the afghan while the cats were napping on the bed. I plan to do either 8 or 16 rows tomorrow. I should finish the pattern on Sunday and then I have only 9 rows to do to end the afghan. When this one is done, it's on to the fourth and final afghan. It will be pink and white and will be done for my nephew and his wife who are expecting a baby girl in August. She will be my second great niece.
After the last afghan is done, I'll get back to my quilting. I really want to get E's quilt done so I can give it to her for Christmas. It's going to be very expensive to have quilted. I'm putting a sleeve on the back so that it can be hung in her hallway. It'll survive better there than on the bed because she has a dog and 2 cats who enjoy getting on her bed. I'll even get the dowl and the two hooks to hang it with. It's going to look great when it's done.
While I'm getting the quilt done, I'll have to fit in making mittens. I want to use the extra yarn to knit them for my great nieces and nephews for the winter. After I learn how to knit those, I'm going to knit a shell for myself. After the shell, I'll have to learn how to knit a sweater. I made a sweater when I was in college, but that's the only one I ever made. I want to master this knitting thing!!!

Done With The Chores

Got all the cleaning done this morning. I even did some laundry. All that's left to do is to vacuum the LR rug. E. stopped by this afternoon and stayed for a couple of hours. I'll get the rug done tomorrow.
On Friday I'll prepare some salads for the Fourth of July. I'll also do some more laundry and anything else that has to be done. The rest of the day I hope to work on one of my projects.

A Not So Busy Day

Today involved a trip to the doctor with Mom. I also did some grocery shopping this morning. I can't tell you where the rest of the day went. Tomorrow I'll pick up the meds she'll start. I suppose I'll do some cleaning in the morning. I plan to wash the kitchen floor and to clean my bathroom. I'm hoping for a good night's sleep tonight so that I have more energy tomorrow. After the chores are done, I'll work on one of my projects.
