New Year's Eve

As 2009 comes to an end, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year. May 2010 be an awesome year for all my friends and family. Like I said a few days ago, I plan to stay at home tonight. It snowed all morning, but the accumulation is not deep. Since I don't feel ship shape today, I'll clean my car off tomorrow. I hope it doesn't turn to ice, but it may because it may start to rain instead of snow later. If it freezes overnight, I'll have my work cut out for me in the morning. We'll watch the New Year ring in on TV. Maybe they'll be a good movie or two on tonight. I'm hoping that that is the case. To everyone who is going Out and About tonight, I hope that your travels are safe. I've made one New Year's resolution already. Good Luck to all of us with our New Year's resolutions. Happy New Year!

Girls' Day Out

A friend and I went out for the afternoon. We visited our favorite yarn and quilt shops. I bought a pattern for a winter hat and one for mittens. My friend bought some yarn. It was interesting to go through the quilt shop. I looked at a longarm machine but there is NOT one of those in my future. Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't have any room for it. There is also a bead shop in that strip of stores. We perused all the beautiful beads and the samples of what you could learn to make. It was nice to get out. I've been home all week. I got a chance to see my friend's home decorated for Christmas. I always love seeing how different people decorate for this beautiful holiday. I was very warmly dressed because it was so freezing cold today. What I didn't take into consideration is that I'd be in a car with the heat on. I didn't need to be so warmly dressed. I even wore a new outfit today. I had purchased it about 2 years ago for New Year's Eve but never had an occasion to wear it until today, the day before New Year's Eve. It is royal blue, velvet pant suit with silver piping around the cuffs and the neck of the jacket. I wore a beaded silver shell underneath. I'm staying in tomorrow night and I'll be wearing my nightgown so I thought I'd dress up today instead. "Life is short", live it up!

A Colder Tuesday

Today is a day for indoor activities. It's too cold outside to go out. I'm spending my afternoon knitting. I've had 2 phone calls from friends this morning. It was nice to chat with a friend I haven't been in contact with since before Thanksgiving. I've made plans to get together tomorrow with the other friend. We're going to visit the yarn shop so she can stock up on yarn for her needs. I want to look into getting yarn for a sweater I'd like to make for myself. The actual purchase of the yarn will have to wait until another time. Since the quilt shop is right next door to the yarn shop, I'll be stopping in there also to see what's new. It's always fun to visit these shops even if you don't purchase anything. Sometimes you come away with good ideas if nothing else. I look forward to tomorrows outing.

A Cold Monday

The wind is blowing. I hope that we don't lose power tonight like we did a few days ago. If we do, we're all set with candles and matches to light the candles.
I did do some knitting today. I also took a short nap. I think that I'm fighting a "bug" of some sort. Hope I'll feel better tomorrow. I guess we'll find a movie to watch tonight and I'll do some more knitting. This afghan which is for my mother will be a lot longer than the baby afghans I made. My mother wants it to cover her while she naps in her recliner. I figure that it should be at least 60 inches long. I have about 12 inches done so far. I've got a way to go yet.
I'll probably take Mom home after the next holiday. I'll be able to get my home in shape when I return. I'm hoping that I can find some work in the new year. If I don't have to worry about her I'll be more relaxed when at work. I hope that we don't have any emergencies this year. It would be nice to have a 'stress free' start to the New Year. I hope that we all have a healthy and prosperous New Year.

The Day After The Day After

It's Sunday, the day after the day after Christmas. I slept late and went to 11:30 am mass this morning. I picked up our meds and bought the Sunday paper. What have I done the rest of the day? I couldn't tell you. I did not take a nap, I'd remember that if I did. I didn't watch tv. I had a phone call which lasted a few minutes and I chatted with Mom on and off. I don't know where the day went but it's now early evening. I did prepare lunch and supper. I did not accomplish anything else worth writing about. It certainly was a "free" day for me.

The Day After

Christmas Day is past. It was a wonderful day. I especially enjoyed the mass at the local church. It was beautiful. The decorations were exceptional. The music was supreme. We sang every Christmas Carol I remember from childhood. There were what seemed like 100's of candles on the altar and down the main aisle. It gave me a good feeling to be there.
Christmas dinner turned out well and the clean up seemed easier than usual. It was fun to give the gifts I bought for my family. They were well liked which I appreciated. I took D. home early so to beat the freezing rain which was predicted.
Now, today I plan to relax. There are a few things to put away, but I'm not in a hurry to do that. Maybe I'll knit, maybe I won't. It's a free day with no commitments. A day like that is nice to experience every now and then. I feel lazy today. After all the preparation and hosting I'm entitled to be lazy today. Today is MY day to do what I want to do.

Christmas Eve

It's Christmas Eve and all the days cooking is done. The diswasher is going at this moment. Now I'm watching the nightly news and am all set to relax for the rest of the evening. I'm hoping that we get to see a terrific Christmas movie this evening, maybe the Christmas Carol with Alistair Sims. Watching that is a tradition for us. Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Relaxing Time

The three tenors are singing Christmas music on a PBS channel. There aren't too many other Christmas shows on.
The chocolate pudding pie is in the fridge. Some how or other I'm going to find extra room in the fridge for 2 pumpkin pies. That will be an accomplishment. The turkey I have is 26.5lbs. It takes up a lot of room in there.
I've showered and washed my hair. When I finish with what I'm doing I'll knit for awhile.

Today's Baking Is Done

The pumpkin pies are cooling. The pie shell for the pudding pie is done. Supper is done. I need to make the pudding for the pie shell. I will then clean up the kitchen. After all that is over I plan to take my shower and wash my hair. I'm looking forward to relaxing afterwards and maybe doing some knitting.

Preparation

The grocery shopping is done. The gifts are wrapped. After supper tonight I'm going to make 2 pumpkin pies and a chocolate pudding pie. I hope that I can fit them into the refridgerator after they've cooled. I'm not quite sure what we'll be having for supper tonight. I'm hoping it is something easy to make and to clean up.
Tomorrow morning I'll make the stuffing for the bird and store that in the fridge until Christmas morning when the turkey will be stuffed and roasted. I will also make cole slaw which is very easy and I'll make creamed cauliflower which can be heated up before dinner is served on Christmas. The only other item I'll be making for Christmas on Christmas Eve, is a white cake with vanilla frosting and strawberry preserves in the middle. It will also have coconut sprinkled on top. That was a request for Christmas too. Of course there will be supper to prepare for Christmas Eve. I've already mentioned that we're having potato soup which will be a meal itself. Hopefully, after supper I'll be able to relax with the family. Merry Christmas!

Watching a Video

We watched our first video with the new tv. I finally figured out how to play the video. We saw "The Bishop's Wife" with Cary Grant, David Niven and Loretta Young. The problem afterwards was how to get the tv back on. I played with 2 remotes for awhile and finally the tv came back. Don't ask what I did because I couldn't tell you. I'm just glad that it worked. I may not be brave enough to watch another video any time soon.

Busy Days Ahead

Today I got 2 of my errands done early in the morning. I'm going to do the grocery shopping tomorrow so that I can get there when the store opens and it's almost empty. The advantage to that is that you can get a close parking space and you don't have to wait to check out. Later in the day I'll wrap some gifts. I'm not in the mood to do that today. I don't feel like fighting with 2 cats. On Christmas Eve morning I'll bake and in the afternoon I'll make 3 of the dishes we'll need for Christmas dinner. I've had a request for potato soup for Christmas Eve so I'll do that later in the afternoon. Somewhere between baking and cooking I'll go to pick up D. so that he can spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with us. That will be a busy, busy, day. I'm already looking forward to after dinner so that I can relax. However, it is all a labor of love.

Out And About, Again

I went out and about today. The major roads were in good condition which was helpful. I had to pick up a few things which I left at the shore because I'll need them for preparing Christmas dinner. I made a grocery list for the things I'll need to purchase at the grocery store. I may do all that tomorrow. I still have 4 gifts to wrap. I used gift bags for most of the others. On Wednesday I'll bake the pumpkin pies and the chocolate cream pies. I hope to also make a cake. We'll surely have enough sweets for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If anyone stops by in the late afternoon we'll have something to serve with tea or coffee. I will go to church on Christmas. The weather forecast is calling for rain. I hope that they're wrong. If the roads are messy I'll go to church locally, I'd rather go to my own church, however. There's a lot to do but I'm "up" for doing it all. May all my friends have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2010.

A Winter Wonderland

The snow isn't as deep as I expected. I went out earlier and dug my car out. There was no where to move it to, so I eventually cleared out my space and put the car back there again. The snow is a light snow. It wasn't hard to shovel this time. Thank goodness. Someone was nice and cleaned my car off before I even went out there. Now I have to find out who did that so I can thank them and perhaps give them a Christmas gift of some sort. We're listening to Christmas music on the TV. I wish I could play my Christmas CD's, but I don't think Mom would enjoy those. She's not a music person. She prefers the tv and movies. Well, it's a Winter Wonderland outside. The snow is expected to be around for Christmas. It'll be a White Christmas afterall.

The Snow Is Falling

Snow has been falling for about 2 hours or so and is still going strong. I had to run out to get Mom's meds and made it home just before the snow started to fall. Thank you, Dear God. I prayed the entire way to the store and back again. I was home for about 15 minutes before the snow started to fall. It's suppose to snow into tomorrow. I called my brother and they had 14 inches about 2 hours ago and the snow was still falling there. We've been told that we could get anywhere from 12 to 16 inches here before it stops falling. As always, it looks pretty out there, but I'm not looking forward to shoveling my car out when it's all over. They say that the snow will be around until Christmas because it'll be so cold, so I guess we'll have a white Christmas afterall. We may even get more snow on Christmas day I've heard. Just as long as I can get out during the week to get to the grocery store and to get Mom's mail and the roaster oven I left at her home.

A Good Day

Today was a working day. I'm now $80. richer. (Big deal!) I guess that every little bit helps. It was a good day.
Now we're hunkering down and getting ready for a big snowstorm. We're beginning to change our Christmas plans. We may be having Christmas here instead of there. It all depends on the weather. Time will tell, we're not sure yet. I'm hoping that I can rest watching a Christmas movie tonight. We're having trouble with the sound on TCM. I don't know why they can't correct the problem. No one else I know outside of our area has the same problem with that channel.

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Today I had my hair colored. It looks nice. I went to buy groceries afterward because they're predicting a snowfall for Saturday. I will not be able to shop tomorrow because I'm working. I'm hoping that it's an easy day. If it is as cold as it was today, I may not have to stand outside for a half hour while the children play. They will probably have inside play. My day will end after eight hours. I'm hoping that we've gotten a raise this year. One can always hope.

Something New

Today started extra early. I was out of the house by 6:45am because I had to do an errand for my brother. I arrived home and continued to watch our usual morning program. I'm all dressed for the luncheon already. I tried something different with my hair last night. Believe it or not, I set it and slept in rollers just like the "old" days. My hair looks nice today. I'm having it done tomorrow and will get the long bangs cut. The other length I'll leave alone for awhile. I'm also getting a touch up and highlights tomorrow. I'm anxious to see how it'll look when that's done. I'm doing my own manicures these days. It still looks nice, but it's another thing that I have to do every week. I've been doing my nails since 8th grade. It gets old doing it yourself after awhile. I also do my own pedicures, but I like the professional look better than the job I can do.
On Friday I'm working for the day at a local school. It will be my first time this year. I'm hoping that I can do more work in the New Year. I hope that Mom doesn't have any emergencies this year while I'm working.
After the luncheon today, I'll meet a friend for last minute Christmas shopping. I'm hoping that I can get a battery for my watch while I'm out. It'll feel like Christmas is coming because it's so cold out today. I'm wearing my faux fur coat because it's so warm. I wish I could find my gloves!

Another Productive Day

It was a productive day today. I completed the minutes from the December Guild meeting and sent them on to our president. I made a cake for tomorrow's luncheon at a friend's home. Made a few phone calls, and spent time with Mom. I started the day by watching "Way Too Early" and "Morning Joe". Unfortunately, I'm missing the Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting tonight. I will be out all afternoon tomorrow and may meet a friend after school for some last minute Christmas shopping. If Mom were at her home I wouldn't have hesitated to go to tonight's meeting, but since I'll be out for so long tomorrow, I thought better of doing so. We found a station which has been showing Christmas movies in the evening. We plan to look for another to watch tonight. 'Tis the season' afterall. On Thursday, "Christmas In Connecticut" will be on TCM. We hope to watch that old favorite of ours. The cable company is having trouble with the sound on that station, however. I hope that it is fixed by Thursday evening. While I'm waiting for the show tonight, I'll knit for awhile.

Slippery Roads

The roads were slippery when I was returning from mass this morning. I skidded slowly as I turned the corner in our development. I decided that it was not safe to drive a distance as I had planned to do after church. We stayed home. We were dry and safe. After a short nap, we started to watch tv. When supper is over I'll get to my knitting. I've been hoping that there will be something worth watching tonight. Where are all the special Christmas programs? It's only 12 days until Christmas. What are they waiting for? I'm bored with the usual programs. Give us something good to watch!

Saturday, December 12, 2009

A Movie Day

We watched several movies today. They were taking place during the Christmas season, but wouldn't be what I'd call "Christmas" movies. Right now we're watching "Eloise At Christmas". I've seen it before. It's cute. We watched a version of Dickens' "Christmas Carol" with Reginald Owen. It's not my favorite version, but it is enjoyable.
Tomorrow I will read at church, then take Mom home. I hope that the rain holds off until we're at her home. It's not fun driving in rain. My plan is to knit for most of the day tomorrow.

Friday, December 11, 2009

Cats And The Dummy

We're watching the "Dog Whisperer". Sometimes I wish that there was a "Cat Whisperer". If I could get the cats to refrain from sleeping on my chest when I'm in bed sleeping. They are too heavy for such behavior. They see me lying down and they think they can just lie down on top of me. They're going to stop my breathing some day. If I'm reclining on the sofa I can direct them off of me. It's when I'm sound asleep that I dislike their behavior the most. It does finally wake me up because I feel like I'm being smothered. At that moment I move them off of me. I guess that I'm at fault for allowing this behavior when they were kittens. I should have read "Cats for Dummies" a long time ago. Maybe I can learn something helpful from that book, yet.

My Day

This morning I got out to do a bit of Christmas shopping. I only have one more gift to get. It's very brisk and cold out today. It certainly feels a lot like Christmas weather. It's not even winter yet. Tomorrow I will go to the post office to mail an art book to my brother. I'm hoping I can make a stop to get the last gift that I need.
I knitted for awhile earlier today. I will get back to it after lunch. There is nothing else that I need to do today. I can't believe that it's the time that it is. Another day going quickly, too quickly.

Last Gift Shopping

My friend's daughter received the afghan I made for her today. I'm happy that it arrived so quickly and before the baby was born. L. told her mother that the afghan is beautiful. That's all I needed to hear. Now I'm happy that I did all the work since it's appreciated.
I'm hoping that tomorrow I can get out to pick up the few Christmas gifts that I need to purchase. I saw a few "little" things at Burlington last week. I'd like to include them in Mom's gift. It will be fun to be out window shopping for a change. I don't usually do that. I was formerly a catalogue shopper which was more convenient for me at the time. I must get 30 catalogues in the mail every week. Some of them I just toss, others I may peruse, but seldom buy anything from them. I'll begin to wrap the gifts next week. There aren't many so that won't be a hassle. Next weekend I'll go food shopping for our Christmas dinner. I already have the turkey and a few items, but there will be other things to get. I hate last minute shopping, or last minute anything for that matter. It causes me stress. I hate stress and it hates me. Let's avoid stress at all costs!
The day went quickly, as most of them do. We got finished with the hospital and got home at about 12:30pm. After lunch I picked up the paper, some milk and cake and returned home. While I was at the store I found some British Sterling after shave for D. I'll include it with his gifts. I still have a couple of gifts to pick up yet. Hopefully, I'll accomplish that in the next day or so. It got so cold out this afternoon. I'm glad that it wasn't quite as cold this morning when we went out. It would've made things harder going to and coming from the appointments. I had a few phone calls to make this afternoon. The group which met for tea a few months ago will meet again next Wednesday locally, at a friend's home. I was asked to remind a few of the women of the date. Our host decorates her home for Christmas by putting a tree in every room of her house, and invited all of us to come over to see her trees. I'll be bringing a cake for dessert. It should be a pleasant visit. I look forward to it.

Checking Off The List

This afternoon I did manage to return the library books and to get postage stamps for the Christmas cards. The cards have been posted and the afghan is also in the mail. I knitted on Mom's afghan for awhile when I returned from the P.O. Got some more laundry done and will do sheets and towels tomorrow. The hamper will be empty and ready to start all over again. There are only 2 more gifts to be purchased. I look forward to getting that done. Tomorrow, after Mom's appointment, I will put the fringe on the Prayer Shawl so that I can hand it in next Tuesday. All that will be left to do is to sew the label on it. When that's done, I'll start the lap blanket for someone I know who has a serious illness. The next Prayer Shawl doesn't need to be done until May. I can take a breather from deadlines for awhile. The only thing I'll need to complete before Christmas is the minutes from our last guild meeting. Perhaps I'll do that on Friday.

Cards Are Written

The Christmas cards are done. Now I just have to get stamps. I did straighten a little in the bedroom this morning. Just need to dust and vacuum in there.
As I'm sitting here writing, I can see that the rain has stopped and the sun is out. That was quite unexpected for today. I wonder how long that will last? I hope that tomorrow's weather is good. I have to take Mom to an appointment. I sewed the label on the baby afghan and will take that to the post office to send when I go to get stamps. I also have to return some library books. Don't think I'll do all that today, however. I want to finish the dusting and vacuuming so that that's over for a few days. This evening I may get back to knitting.

Cleaning Today

Today I spent the day cleaning and doing laundry. I will finish the house tomorrow since I can no longer do the entire house in one day. I guess I'm getting slower in my old age. Tonight I'll shower early than relax in front of the tv. If I don't knit today it will be okay. I don't feel like I have a deadline for getting Mom's afghan done. It'll be okay to skip knitting one day or two in a row when the season at hand calls for doing other things.
Tomorrow I take the two cats for their shots. It's going to rain in our area the weatherman predicted. It's going to snow north of here. I hope it's only rain in the morning or I'm not going to get Sandy and Coco to the Vet. I'll be glad when that is behind us. I'm reading at church on Sunday and it may snow. I'm hoping it waits until I return home after mass. I hate to drive in the snow. One of these days I'll get around to writing out my Christmas cards. I need Christmas stamps and also need to mail the baby afghan to my friend's daughter. Haven't watched any Christmas tapes yet. Mom isn't a fan. I'll get to that after I take her home.

A Lazy Afternoon

It was a lazy day. I didn't feel like doing anything. I did run a couple of errands this morning. I plan to clean my place tomorrow since I have nothing else on my calendar. Tonight I think I'll knit on Mom's afghan. I'm not going to drive myself crazy trying to get it done by Christmas. Guess I'll be getting Mom another gift. If there is nothing worth watching on TV tonight we may watch a video. "The Bishop's Wife" is ready and waiting to be popped into the vhs player. Last year I didn't watch all my Christmas movies so I will probably watch them this year. I had seen them all so often that I could recite some of the dialog from each movie. It's more fun when you aren't sure what to expect during the movie.
The snow which fell the other day is just about all gone from the lawns. It's still cold out today, however. It looks so pretty. It was nice that it wasn't very deep so it didn't impair the car drivers out there. I decorated my LR. I put a small Alpine tree up next to the fireplace. There is a Christmas centerpiece on the fireplace mantel and a lighted wreath on the living room closet door. I also put a wreath on the outside of the front door. That's about all the decorating I'll be doing this year. I need to get Christmas stamps. I need to write out my Christmas cards. I've received 2 already. Tomorrow I take Sandy and Coco for their shots. Can't wait until that is over. I just hope I have success in getting them into the cat carriers. Hope that everyone has a Happy Christmas Season!

A Crisp, Cold Day

It was a crisp, cold Tuesday. I went to the doctor appointment this morning. Everything went well for me there. When I got home from the doctor's I made several phone calls and took care of other personal business. It was a sleepy day since I awoke at 3:30am. Tonight I'll knit for awhile. I prepared some fabric for making a quilt block today. I washed it to make sure that the colors wouldn't run. I'll finish the block for Friday's meeting and if it's my lucky day, I may win the blocks made by our members so that I can make an entire quilt. I like the pattern of the block and would be happy to win the drawing.

Thanksgiving Visit Is Over

We had a great Thanksgiving holiday at Mom's. I was exhausted from all of the preparation which took place over 4 or 5 days before the holiday. It's good to be home at last. I finally purchased my Christmas cards but haven't started to write them out yet. That will have to wait until the baby afghan is done. The baby is due in a few weeks. My sister-in-law and I visited The Christmas Tree Shop in Freehold on Saturday. I saw a couple of things which I plan to go back to purchase for Christmas presents. I hope they are still there when I go back.
When I got home today I typed up the minutes from the Nov. 20th Guild meeting and sent them to our president. It didn't take me as long to do them as it took me last month. I'm hoping that this Friday's meeting will also be short and sweet. We have our Holiday Luncheon after the meeting. I have to prepare a Macaroni salad to bring to the luncheon. We will also present a QOV to someone before the luncheon. That will be a nice thing to be part of and to witness.
Tomorrow I have an early morning doctor appointment. I plan to knit for the rest of the day. In the evening the Prayer Shawl committee meets again. I hope to attend that meeting. I'd like to make Mom an afghan for Christmas so that means I'll be knitting during every spare minute so that I complete it by Christmas. I hope that I have enough yarn for her afghan. I'm listening to Christmas music on the TV. It was time to turn the news off for the time being. I'll check in with the news again before I retire for the evening. I still can't find 14 of the quilt blocks I did so that I can finish my sister's quilt. I hope that they show up sooner than later. I'm also late in getting the Christmas decorations out for the season. Maybe I can do that tomorrow, also. Here's to a Happy Holiday Season to all my friends and family.

Friday

The Guild Meeting was a short one this morning. It shouldn't take me as long to type the minutes. There were actually a few committees which had no report. Another thing I don't have to type.
After the meeting I did the food shopping for Thanksgiving. I got a free turkey which I put in the freezer. I'll save it for Christmas. My mother is getting a free turkey at her grocery store which I'll pick up on Sunday. That turkey we'll use for Thanksgiving. There are still a few things I'll have to pick up when I get to Mom's, but the bulk of the shopping is done. I'll travel down to the shore tomorrow to bring all the groceries. While there, I'll do the cleaning that I need to do in preparation for our guests who are coming on Thanksgiving. I'm hoping that I can stay down there until next week, but I may have to return because we're expecting a delivery of a Christmas present which will be left at the door. E. said she'd check up on the cats before she comes down to help out on Wednesday. They're not going to like being all alone for more then 2 days.

Too Much To Do

Did some laundry and straightened up today. It's been a quiet day. I didn't venture out at all today. Tomorrow is the Quilt Guild meeting where I'll have to take minutes. I'll rush home and type them up while they're still fresh in my mind. The last meetings minutes took me 3 hours to get done. I'm not expecting anything less this time unless the meeting is shorter. I won't stay for the program for a few reasons. One reason is that I don't need to start another quilting project. The class is also $65. which I'd rather not spend on that. I'm suppose to go out in the evening to play Pinochle. I don't want to fill my day up that much more. I had planned to bake tomorrow night but Pinochle was changed to Friday instead of the usual Saturday. I may decide to stay home and do the baking anyway. There's so much to get done before I head for the shore to prepare for our holiday guests. I'm starting to feel the pressure already and Thanksgiving is an entire week away.

Being Lazy

This evening I went to get the H1N1 vaccine. I'm glad that's over.
I came back from the shore late this morning. I didn't accomplish anything worth writing about today. Tomorrow I'll straighten and clean up my place. I may read or knit for the rest of the day. Tonight I'm being "lazy". I don't feel like doing anything except maybe watching the tube. After working for what seemed a lifetime, I guess it's okay to be "lazy" once in a while. I've earned it!

Taking Out Stitches

The mistake in the knitting row was corrected by me today. It wasn't easy to take out the stitches as it is to knit the piece in the first place. I was able to continue knitting on the afghan for a few more rows. I'm tired tonight so I thought I'd put it away until tomorrow, By doing so, I won't make another mistake which will have to be taken out. I also knitted on the prayer shawl which is not as complicated to do. I returned books to the library, bought Mom a paper and stopped to buy a lottery ticket. I haven't bought one in quite a while. How nice it would be to win the lottery before Christmas. Just think of what I could do with the winnings. Besides paying bills I could purchase great gifts for everyone on my list. That would make me happy.

A Noneventful Day

It was a quiet non-eventful day. We're watching an exciting movie on tv, however. It's called "Executive Decision". It's a little too 'drawn out', but exciting non the less.
I haven't knitted in the past several days. I have to undo a mistake I made. Tomorrow I'll resume knitting on the baby afghan. I really want to get that done soon. I'm also reading at church tomorrow. I may do some grocery shopping afterwards.

All Is Well

This morning I had 2 health tests done. All is well, I'm told. That was a relief! Next Wed. I'll get THE flu shot which my doctor finally got into his office. I'm hoping that there will be no more doctor visits for awhile. I need a rest.
Today we made a list of the items we'll need to buy for our Thanksgiving dinner. We're having 10 people for dinner which is more than we usually have. It'll be a real party! I may even have help in the kitchen which I welcome. We'll prepare what we can the day before Thanksgiving which makes things easier on the holiday. On Thursday, Thanksgiving, we usually watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. There is a dog show on after the parade which my family likes to watch. After the men arrive I know there will be a football game on the TV. Is it Thanksgiving without the parade and a football game? Not for our family! I'm looking forward to the festivities.

A Nor'Easter

We're expecting a Nor'Easter for the next few days. We're ready! I hope the power doesn't go off so we can eat warm suppers and have a cup of tea or 2 during the day. If the power does go out we'll resort to using candles for light and I guess we'll read if there's enough daylight. I may see if I can get Mom to play cards if reading is not possible. We could play Scrabble or Train Dominoes. She's not a big game player anymore. She may just prefer to nap. But like the saying goes, "This too shall pass."

We're Back

We're back! We returned here at about 2pm. Where the rest of the day has gone, I don't know. I did go to the dentist as planned. We're watching TV news now. I still need to clean up the kitchen and to start the D.W. I'm kind of sleepy so I don't think I'll read tonight because that will definitely put me to sleep. I hope that there's something worth watching later. I may just take it easy tonight and do nothing.

Wednesday's Plans

Tomorrow I have a dental appointment in the morning. I plan to go to Mom's afterward and to bring her back here. The rest of the week is rather busy for me so having her here will make things easier for me. Now that I have a tv she'll have something to entertain her while she's here.

A Day of Reading

Today I spent the entire day reading. I was introduced to a different author by my sister-in-law. The author's name is Wanda E. Brunstetter. Last night I started one of her books entitled "White Christmas Pie" and finished it this morning. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a light, pleasant story about the Amish. Today's book was called "A Merry Heart" which was also an Amish story. I have 2 more of her books out of the library which I'm sure will get read in no time at all. It's so pleasant to read about "good" people for a change. After I'm done with these books I'll read "Truman" by David Mc Cullough. I enjoyed the book "John Adams" which he wrote. Since I like history, I thought I'd read the Truman book. I'm sure I'll learn something I never knew before while reading it. It was time to take a break from knitting and quilting. Instead of keeping my hands busy I decided to read for a change. It was a quiet day without any music or tv on in the background and I thoroughly enjoyed it because my mind was engaged in something useful.

A Slow Start

It was not as productive a day today as I had hoped it would be. I did go to the library and stopped to buy litter for the cats. I dusted and replaced the doilies I washed on the piano and the buffet. Tomorrow I'll clean what's left to be done, and hopefully, I can sew for the rest of the day. I found out that I don't need to be done with the Prayer shawl until after Christmas, so I'll take some time to work on a quilt I'd like to give as a Christmas present. When I go in to sew tomorrow I'm sure that Sandy and Coco will be right nearby. They like to be in the same room that I'm in, no matter what I'm doing. That's okay with me as long as they don't get in the way. I remember when Sandy was a kitten and he use to watch me sew. He would try to catch the needle as it went up and down. I had to ban him from the room. Thank goodness he's gotten over that behavior. I just hope that I wake up well rested tomorrow. I got a slow start today. I don't want to waste the day by being sleepy and not "up" to doing anything. I have no reason to leave the house tomorrow so I should be able to accomplish what I want to do.

The Weekend

It was a nice weekend so far. I arrived home earlier than usual today. I managed to do some knitting on the baby afghan this weekend. I also shopped for some items we'll need for Thanksgiving. We qualify for a free turkey which I'll pick up the weekend before the holiday. I've checked the email messages and the snail mail. There are no phone messages, so that was a relief. I saved a little time because I didn't have to check those. The rest of today is mine!!

The Plan

It's time for red and green I guess, or maybe gold and silver. White lights or colored lights for the tree? Which will it be? I'd like to purchase a small 4.5 artificial tree which is prelighted and is easy to put up. I saw one in a catalogue but I'm sure I could find one in a local store and save on the S&H. Last year I decorated for the season, but I didn't put up a tree. I missed it. I'm hoping that this year will be different. I have 2 cats now. I suppose they'll both try to climb the tree, or at least sit under it on the quilted Christmas tree skirt I made. I'm guessing that Sandy will sit under it and Coco will try to climb it. The tree will be my primary decoration. I have a centerpiece with white and red roses and 3 candles in glass chimneys which I'll put on the mantel. There is a lighted wreath which I usually hang on the LR closet door, and an artificial wreath to hang on the outside of the front door. Since my place is small, that will be the extent of the decorating. I'll still use my Christmas Tree dishes and glasses and put the Christmas Tree teapot, coffee pot and sugar and creamer on the tea table. This year I may get to bake Christmas cookies which I've hoped to do every year but never get around to doing. Ideally, I'd love to have a Caroling party, but that's out of the question due to lack of space. Any way, there's another holiday before Christmas which requires planning. Here's to a Happy Holiday Season!

A Christmas Show

This afternoon I attended The Hunterdon Hills Playhouse with 3 friends. The Christmas show started this week. It was a variety show, not a play. It was very entertaining. The cast was very talented. They were excellent dancers and terrific singers. The lunch which was served was also very good. I had fried shrimp and scallops and miniature potato pancakes. It was served with mixed vegetables. Dessert was served buffet style in the vestibule of the theater. There were many delicious looking desserts to choose from. A friend of mine gave me her ticket because she was not able to attend. Thank you, G., I have had a wonderful time.

A New TV

The TV has been delivered and it is going now. The picture is great; the sound is also great. I'll be able to watch the news programs I use to watch and the few other channels I find entertaining. Right now I'm listening to a music Channel which has always been a favorite of mine. I noticed that 2 of the music channels are playing holiday music already. I'm going to hold off on listening to holiday music so early because I'll be sick of it by the time December comes around. I guess I'll be knitting and watching TV tonight. Maybe I'll even watch the Yankees game. I wonder if they'll do it tonight or mess everything up?

Made The Meeting

The call came in time and I did make the meeting. I returned home about a half hour ago. We had a productive meeting and exchanged good ideas. I gave the labels to the leader of our group for her to hand out to everyone as they finish their shawl or lap blanket. Then they can be sewn on to the piece. I have to measure my shawl. I think that it's more than half finished. I'm knitting it 60 inches long and then adding fringe. I can't wait to see what it'll look like when I'm done.

Day Is Ending

Our MJ game is over. I just got home. The gang was very noisy today. It was hard to concentrate. We had a friend of one of the gals come to watch a game in progress. She is just learning to play. I don't know why, but I was looking forward to a serious game so I was disappointed that the gang was restless and chatty. I did win once. Before MJ I went out to vote this morning. It'll be interesting to see who wins as Govenor of our state. All I can say is may the best man win!! In a few hours I'll be headed to church for the Prayer Shawl ministry. I'm expecting a phone call which I hope comes in before it's time to leave, otherwise I'll be late for the meeting. Tomorrow, at last, I'm getting the long awaited for TV.

Another Busy Tuesday

Tuesday will be a very busy day for me. I'm suppose to play MJ with friends and in the evening the Prayer Shawl Ministry meets for a couple of hours. I have to find some time in between to make a couple of important phone calls. The problem with that is that if I have to wait for a call back, I can't leave the house until it comes through. Actually, if I don't get to play MJ it won't be so terrible because I played last week, and I'd have a rather long drive to the home of the gal hosting it tomorrow. So, if I look at the bright side of not playing, it would be that I wouldn't be using so much gas during the day since I'll be using some at night. When the funds are low I like to conserve gas for less frivolous things instead of playing MJ again.

A Friendly Visit

Today my good friend from FL came for a visit. We talked for 2 hours. We share many of the same craft interests and always have a lot to talk about. She brought me some fabric for my stash. It will come in handy for doing the block of the month or for making a quilt for charity. Fabric is so expensive these days that I welcome any pieces I am given. Besides quilting, we both knit. She showed me what she is working on and I showed her what I am doing. I always enjoy her company and wish that the visits weren't so few and far between.

A Fast Day!

Don't know where Sandy and Coco are. They must be sleeping in the bedroom. Oh, no, Coco is in the cat bed on the floor. She's sleeping so peacefully. I didn't even realize she was there.
The day flew by today. I did get some knitting done on the baby afghan. In a little while I'll knit some more. Just taking a break from it for awhile. I've emptied the dishwasher and have put the supper dishes in it. The laundry is almost done. Music still plays. I've sent a few email messages and also read a few. I'm looking forward to getting the new TV set up. That'll give me another choice of something to do in the evenings.

November

The clocks were set back last night. We got an extra hour of sleep. I went to church and read at the 8:30am mass. After returning home I started some laundry and also started the dishwasher. A friend of mine is stopping over tomorrow for a visit. I plan to make scones so we can have them with tea when she arrives. Later today I'll vacuum and dust and clean the bathroom. I'll spend a good portion of the rest of the day knitting. The labels I ordered have arrived so I can bring them to the Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting on Tuesday and show them to all of the knitters. There is beautiful classical music playing on the CD player right now. Coco is sleeping on the wing chair and Sandy is sleeping on the bed. All is right with our small world! It's November now. The next holiday we have to look forward to is Thanksgiving. We plan to have our celebration at Mom's. Perhaps Christmas will be here.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! It's nice to see so many people decorating their houses for this holiday. People have really gotten into the spirit of it all. I loved this holiday as a child. It's not as much fun answering the doorbell when it rings, but it's only one day.
I bought a TV yesterday. Now when Mom comes to visit she doesn't have to read a novel a day to entertain herself. I'm expecting the delivery to be this coming Wednesday. I hope that they come early in the day. The TV itself was a bargain. All the things that go with it plus the fees for setting it all up are outrageous!! I'm sure it will be worth it all when I can view my favorite shows again. I guess that I can consider it an early Christmas present to myself.

Early Bird

In a few hours I'll have to move my car from the lot. I'll start my errands, running around town. I plan to purchase a tv today. I'm hoping that it can be delivered early next week. After it's been delivered I can have the cable set up and start watching my favorite morning program which is the only thing I've missed. I'll go visit Mom today and I plan to take my knitting so I can get at least 1 pattern done on the baby afghan. If I feel ambitious, I'll do 2 patterns. I'll have to do her grocery shopping today. Tomorrow it will be too crazy to go to the store. They've invited the Trick or Treaters to come into the store. Since I'm wide awake, showered and fully dressed, I get impatient waiting for the stores to open. I want to get out and about now. I'll cool my heels and start to knit I suppose.

Quilting and Knitting Together

Today we got together at a friend's home to quilt or knit. I got a lot done on the last baby afghan for the year which I'm knitting. There was a lot of chit chat today. I had to be careful that I didn't miscount as I was knitting. We also looked at a few magazines that were passed around with quilting ideas in them. Someone had photos of a new baby in her family and a couple other people had "show and tell" to let everyone see what they worked on since we last met. We broke for lunch at about 1:00pm. The "Bee" started to break up at about 2:00pm. Some of us had to go home, but when I left there were still four people sewing away.

Need An Upbeat Day!

Tomorrow must be an upbeat day! There's a lot I'd like to get done after I return home from our quilting session. I've been kind of dragging today since I lost so much sleep the day before yesterday. That's not a good thing because it's almost like wasting a day. I had washed all the doilies and I'd like to return them to the various surfaces tomorrow. I may be hosting MJ on Tuesday so I want to get a head start on cleaning some of the little things which usually go undone because they are unnoticed. For instance, the front step as you walk into the house needs to be scrubbed. The tract where the shower door slides needs to be attended to and the tract where the sliding door slides also needs attention. Those are the little things which I miss when I'm doing the weekly cleaning. Those are the little things which make a big difference.
I need to buy another filter for the vacuum cleaner. I'll start vacuuming the cat hair off the recliner and the cat's favorite wing chair when that's replaced. I love cats but I hate the cat hair on everything. Life would be much easier if one didn't have pets to clean up after. They do bring joy to one's life, however. So, I guess I'll put up with the cat hair as long as they do give me joy.

Another Sleepy Day

Today is a "sleepy" day. It's raining again so they didn't do the sealing of the cracks in our court. I haven't done much, probably because I missed so much sleep the night before last. Classical music is playing in the background on the CD player. I've made a few appointments by telephone. I did speak with Mom at lunchtime. She's probably napping now. I'll call her again at suppertime to check in on her. Tomorrow is another day when our small quilt group gets together at the home of one of our members. I'll be knitting again instead of quilting because I want to get the baby afghan completed. If I can get 2 patterns completed while I'm there, I'll be happy. Tonight I'll do the "no brainer" knitting project which doesn't require counting the stitches. I'll bet I'm more than half done with the first prayer shawl I'm knitting. Can't wait to see it completed and with the label on it. Wish those labels would arrive. I'm also anxious to see them. Last night's knitting chain session was quite enjoyable. One of the ladies finished one Prayer shawl and handed it in last night. It is a beauty. She did it in crochet stitches. Two of the members of our group were not present last night. I feel that I'm getting to know the ladies as we sit around the table and knit.

Wide Awake, Again

Another night when the clock is past mid-night and I can't sleep. They say when that happens you should get up and do something else and after awhile try the sleep thing again. So here I am writing about nothing inparticular and everything in general. Even the classical music didn't put me to sleep this evening. I'll be sorry tomorrow when I start to get sleepy during my daytime activities. The alarm's set for 6:00am so I can move my car in time. Don't want it to be towed because I forgot to get it off the court in time. There's always something!

Where Does The Time Go?

Today went quickly. I started the morning doing some errands. After lunch I had a medical visit and didn't arrive home until about 5:00pm. I spent some time with Sandy and Coco who missed me today. I've been knitting for the past hour while listening to some light classical music on the cd player. I have to remember to remove my car from the parking lot early tomorrow morning because they're going to work on our court. I need to go to the grocery store for a few items so that's where I'll be headed. I'll return a book to the library on the way. Later in the morning I'm going to a friend's home to play MJ. Tomorrow night is the Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting at church. It'll be a full day, but it will be enjoyable none the less. I'm about half way finished with the prayer shawl I'm working on. I'm anxious to get it done because I have a lap blanket planned for someone which I'd like to start working on. I don't know who the recipient of the prayer shawl will be yet. When I finish the baby afghan, I'll be making a lap afghan for my mother. She wants the same pattern as the baby afghan, but I'm going to use a different type of yarn for hers, and it will be burgandy and pink. Wednesday is a free day for me. I hope to get the house in order and do a lot of knitting. I found a tv on sale which I might buy on Friday this week. They will remove the old tv for free. That sounds good to me. Then I'll need to have the cable company reinstall the cable box and get the tv working. I'm hoping that I can get that done by next weekend.

Busy Days

It's been a busy few days. I went to Mom's and did some cleaning and some food shopping for her. Last night I got a lot of knitting done on both projects. I went to church this morning after which I went to Radio Shack to buy a new battery for my phone. I picked up a cinnamon spice candle for the candle warmer in a craft store nearby. I'm home now and have checked my email and phone messages and snail mail. The cats have been wonderful. I opened the doors for them for awhile when I got home. They are sleeping nearby as I type. I'm sure they'll be climbing into my lap when I start knitting again. I have some laundry in the washing machine which will be done shortly. I plan to relax and knit for the rest of the day.

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Banana Bread

Tonight I'm making Banana Bread. I have 4 very overly rip bananas and I don't want to just throw them out. I've done some knitting already, done the laundry, and had my hair done. No, I haven't made the applesauce cake today. The bananas are calling to be made into something so the applesauce cake will have to wait for another day. I'm waiting for the butter to soften before I begin. That will make the whole process alot easier. It'll probably take about 15 or 20 minutes to get it into the oven and then an hour and 20 minutes to bake. It'll be out of the oven before bedtime. While I wait for the butter to soften I'll continue to knit. I've never made banana bread before I hope it turns out to be tasty.

Today's Plan

Eureka! I actually had 8 hours sleep last night. I feel great this morning. Today's plan is to have my hair done, come home and eat lunch and then make the applesauce cake for Mom. I have a bit of laundry to do and then I'll dust the LR/DR area. When that's done, I'll spend the rest of the day knitting.

Knitting Starts Now

After lunch today I fell asleep in the recliner. Before I knew it, it was 6:00pm. I hadn't even planned to sleep. I guess that all that wonderful playing and walking on such a beautiful day brought on the long nap. I feel great now. My feet no longer hurt, my pink cheeks have lightened and I'm ready to start knitting. I did manage to get in a phone call before sleep overcame me so I will have my hair done tomorrow. I'm so happy that they could fit me in. The rest of my day tomorrow is unscheduled. I'll plan the day tomorrow.

A Great Golf Day

Beautiful day for playing golf. We played 9 holes. I'm kind of overheated not badly, but my feet and legs are okay. The feet hurt a bit from all the walking, but now that I took my shoes off I'm sure I'll recover quickly. I loved being out there today. It took us 3 hours to play 9 holes. We just took our time and even let 2 groups play through so we wouldn't feel rushed. I plan to knit for the rest of the afternoon.

A Good Rest

Last night I fell asleep on the couch. I awoke at 2:00am and shut off the lights and went to bed. Naturally, I couldn't fall back to sleep so I got up at 3:00am. It's 5:35am now. I've had my shower, eaten breakfast, opened and closed the golf cart, and found the tees and balls I'll play with today. All that remains is to iron what I'm going to wear. Did I ever mention that I hate ironing? As I sit here sipping my coffee, I'm getting excited about the day on the golf course. We may only play 9 holes since it's the first time walking the course today. Maybe my feet and legs will not be tired by then and we'll try to finish the 18. Time will tell. The weather will be nice. I'm sure it'll start off chilly, but it promises to hit 68 degrees today. That's my kind of golf day.

Plans Change

The plans for today were changed this morning. I took Mom to the doctor, we came home and ate lunch then I scrambled around getting everything together to put in the car so I could take her home. Her oxygen machine needed to be replaced and they were making the delivery this afternoon. Right now, I'm exhausted. I returned home at 8:00pm this evening. I am playing golf tomorrow. I have to iron my outfit and practice opening and closing the golf cart which I've never used yet. You see, we are walking the course tomorrow, not riding. Before I head out to play golf I have a doctor appointment myself. It's going to be rush, rush, rush, tomorrow because I have to get gas for the car and stop at the bank. I'm hoping for a restful night's sleep tonight. I'm going to be like Scarlett and say, I'll think about it (all) tomorrow.

Monday, October 19, 2009

Tomorrow's Another Day

Tonight I promised that I'd make an applesauce cake. Unfortunately, I'm too tired to do that so I'll have to do it tomorrow. I have yet to do any knitting for the day. I'd like to get at least 1 row done on each project before bedtime. It's remarkable that the cats have left me alone for most of the day. That could be because I was here all day and didn't leave them for any length of time. It's kind of nice not to have a fur ball on your lap when you'd like to be up and doing things around the house. I intend to relax for the rest of the evening.

Too Much Stuff

Today I spent all day cleaning the bedroom. All that's left is to vacuum the floor and clean the closet. I will save the closet for another day. That will be a big undertaking since I have to decide what to give away. That's not an easy decision and I wish I didn't have to make it, but I don't have enough room for all that's in there. Tomorrow I have to take Mom to a doctor appointment and Wednesday I'll play golf. So, maybe the end of the week I'll finish the closet. Sandy and Coco slept on the bed all day as I dusted and straightened. I'd rest inbetween dusting the collectibles that are in there. The sheets have been changed and the bed has been made. I have a Christmas Quilt and a summer blanket that I need to store somewhere. Where, is the question??? Hopefully, one of these days I'll figure that out. In another month and a half it'll be time to put the Christmas quilt on the bed. It feels good to be almost done in there. There is too much stuff and not enough closet space.

Day Is Almost Done

Day is almost done. I did get a lot of knitting done on both the afghan and the prayer shawl. Mom's been reading all day. We've had dinner and the dishes are in the washer. There are a couple of hours left for knitting before I call it a day. It was a nice day today despite the rain outside.

Have All Day

Love that's it's only 12:20pm. I went to church and read at the 8:30am mass. When I returned home I started the roast for dinner. Mom and I had coffee and I managed to knit for awhile before getting interrupted by Coco. I have all afternoon to work on the baby afghan, with hopefully, few interruptions from Sandy and Coco.

Events of The Day

The food shopping is done. It poured while I came and went to the store. I picked up D. for a visit and have taken him home already. Can't believe it's almost supper time. The laundry is getting done. I completed typing the minutes from the meeting and sent them off to our President. I hope they meet with her approval. Coco and Sandy have demanded attention and gotten it. Now, as they nap somewhere I'm going to try to get some knitting done. I'll have to stop shortly to prepare supper, but we just had a spot of tea which should hold us for awhile. I'm glad that it finally stopped raining. I got an email from a friend inviting me to play golf next week. I hope that I can get to do that. Maybe it'll work for next Wednesday.

Saturday Plans

There was not much knitting done tonight. I'll have to make up for lost time tomorrow. There are no definite plans for Saturday. I would like to knit. I may go to get another skein of yarn for the Prayer Shawl I'm working on. It requires 4 skeins instead of the 3 which were required for the first shawl I had planned to make. I have a 40% off coupon for the yarn. I may finish the minutes for our meeting. Of course there's always straightening up to do. I will do some laundry tomorrow also. I'd love it if the sun would shine tomorrow. May everyone Iknow have a nice weekend.

The Guild Meeting

The meeting went well this morning. When I arrived home I started to write up the minutes of the meeting so I wouldn't forget what had transpired. There are only 2 committee reports I have to fill in the information for.
The speaker we originally had scheduled had to cancel for health reasons. In her absence she sent one of her books entitled, "PINK RIBBON QUILTS A book Because of Breast Cancer". It was raffled off at the meeting and I was the one who won the book. A friend of the author came instead as our speaker today. She spoke about "Threads of the 1930's" and showed us all kinds of quilts made during the 30's. It was a very interesting and enlightening presentation.
While I was typing the minutes from my notes, Coco and Sandy would stop by to interrupt me because they wanted to sit on my lap. Once I shut the computer, they left my lap. They just couldn't stand that I was preoccupied with something else besides them. The same thing happens when I'm knitting, that's when they want attention from me. I finally finished typing from my notes at 5pm. I had started at 2pm with 2 interruptions. I didn't realize that it would be so time consuming. Maybe as the year goes, I'll get quicker doing this. I certainly hope so.

The Gang's All Here!

Mom's reading, Coco and Sandy are cleaning themselves and I've spent a bit of time knitting. I was interrupted by Coco because she wanted some attention. Usually when I'm busy doing something is when she wants to sit on my lap. All knitting stops when that happens. She also jumps on my lap while I'm on the laptop computer. Luckily, she is preoccupied at the moment and I'm not being interrupted from typing. Tomorrow I have a Quilt Guild Meeting. I hope that I'm wide awake when I go there since I have to take the Minutes of the meeting. I've never been a secretary of an organizatione before so I hope that I'm up to the challenge. I believe that our program after the meeting was cancelled tomorrow so I should be able to get home in the early afternoon. I'll leave Mom something for lunch just in case I'm detained. It will most likely rain heavily tomorrow and also be windy. I hope that we don't lose any power during the storm. That's quite inconvenient. Perhaps I'll be able to get more knitting done tomorrow than I got done today.

Another Rainy Day

It's raining again. We're suppose to have a Nor'easter. Rain for the next three days, they say. I brought Mom home with me today because she has a doctor appointment on Tues. I stopped at the library to pick up some books for her to read. She likes mysteries and thrillers. I got 5 books. She'll need something to read since I no longer have a TV. It's snug and warm in the house. After dinner I'll be knitting up a storm. I'm working on 2 projects each day. The first is the baby afghan for a December birth and the second is a Prayer Shawl for someone. I will also start a lap blanket for another person who I know is ill. We're hoping that father will bless the prayer shawls and lap blankets before we give them to the ill people on our list. Perhaps he'll say a "healing mass" and some of the recepients may attend if possible and also be blessed. My only regret is that my fingers don't work fast enough to get everything done by tomorrow. It'll be a couple of weeks until the afghan and the prayer shawl are done. It'll be a bit longer for the lap blanket. I get all excited about the things I'm making and I can't wait to see the finished product.

A Good Meeting

We had a productive meeting. Three of the older ladies are expert knitters. They will be teaching the rest of us little tricks from time to time I'm sure. They already showed us how to begin each row when using a straight needle. It's a way I wasn't aware of before. It gives the edge of the piece a nice finish. One of the older woman took my yarn and rolled it into a ball so that it was easier to use. The yarn comes out the center of the ball. My yarn was coming from the outer side of the skein. There are 8 of us in the group. One of the woman didn't come tonight because she was ill. I told the leader of the group that I would bring a refreshment next time because she provided one at the last meeting when she baked an apple cobbler. She baked chocolate chip cookies for tonight. I can't promise that I'll bake something homemade, but I will provide something. The pastor stopped by to say "hello". One of the older woman told him that she wanted to teach him how to knit. He said, "Oh, yeah." and walked away. It's fun to meet with a group and knit. There wasn't too much talking while knitting. It's necessary for me to stop knitting before I speak so that I don't make any mistakes. I'm a quiet knitter.

Tonight

The Knitting Chain meets tonight. I'm looking forward to going. It'll be interesting to see what type of yarn everyone has chosen for their Prayer Shawl and what pattern they have decided to use. The last meeting only lasted for an hour and a half. I can't see myself staying for more than 2 hours tonight since I have the longest ride home. I'm hoping that it doesn't rain, although it's already getting dim outside like it's about to do something. It's only 4:20pm. The sun shouldn't officially set until 6:08pm. Sunrise is a minute later each day and sunset is a minute earlier than the day before. It'll be like this until December 21st when the days will begin to get longer. This is the dark time of the year. It's a good thing that the season of fall is so beautiful and that we have holidays to look forward to because otherwise it could be quite a downer. When I return tonight I'll write about our meeting. That's it for now.

Enjoying The Fruit

It felt so good coming home to a house that was in order. All the time I spent cleaning last week was well worth the effort and the time it took. I know that the dust will fall again and soon I'll be doing it all over again, but for the time being I'm enjoying the fruit of my labor.
I'm thinking that it will be nice to have a party or 2 to go to this holiday season. I usually watch all my Christmas videos to get in the mood but that's out this season because I don't have a tv. It's really better to experience the joy than to watch a rendition of others doing so. I've always thought it would be nice to have a Caroling party. I've imagined it as first having people over for cocktails at about 5pm and then going caroling for awhile and coming back for dinner. I wish that I lived in a type of neighborhood where doing something like that would work. It could be a pot luck dinner, it wouldn't have to be fancy at all. ( I'm filled with good ideas.) I just don't have the means or wherewithall to bring them to fruition.

A Magic Wand

We went down to visit Mom yesterday. I arrived home at about 1:30pm this afternoon. I did a bit of knitting on both projects and played some very relaxing music. I fell asleep for a couple of hours, probably because I was up so late last night. Tomorrow I will finish the bedroom for once and for all. I just wish I had someplace to put some of the summer clothing other than storing them in the bedroom somewhere. There's just not enough space. I feel like throwing out all the tee shirts I've collected over the years and starting over fresh next spring and summer. I know I won't end up doing that, however. Some of the things I need to store are just "knock about" type things for hanging around the house. I will still need them next year because that'll save the newer, fresher outfits for going out and about. The dresses I can hang in the closet. It's a big project and one I don't enjoy doing. I WILL enjoy it when it's all DONE! I wish I had a magic wand to wave over the bedroom to get everything in it's proper place. No such luck!!

All Ready

The vacuuming is done, the cake is baked. I just need to put the icing on it now that it has cooled. I knitted for a while. I cast on the stitches for the Prayer Shawl and knitted one row. I picked up the baby afghan project and knitted on that for awhile. The house looks great! I'm glad that I did most of the cleaning yesterday. I'm not as exhausted today. Now I can enjoy our Pinochle game tonight.

Cleaning Day

Today was a cleaning day. All that I have left to do is to vacuum the LR/DR tomorrow. I will also make a cake for the Pinochle group which will be playing here tomorrow night. I'll need to go out to buy some soft drinks and a few other items. I still see many "cleaning chores" which I'd like to get done next week. Washing the crystal is one chore I'd like to get done. There is the punch bowl and the wine decanters and a vase or two, also an ice bucket. When I see them sparkling I'll know the place is clean. I moved 2 pieces of furniture around in the kitchen and washed the floor. The room appears to be more spacious now. The last chore I'll do next week is to put away the rest of the summer clothing and take out whatever hasn't been taken out for the fall/winter yet. Then the bedroom too will sparkle. During my break times I'll knit the last baby afghan I'm working on. I'll also start the Prayer Shawl for the Knitting Chain. We have a meeting on Tuesday. Friday is our Quilt Guild meeting. I hope I'm successful taking notes for the minutes. I've never done this before. There's always something to do. There's never a dull moment, not even without the tv. If the weather cooperates I should start walking every day. I need to lose some weight and that would be a good way to get some exercise. I think that I'd have more energy if I started an exercise routine and was able to lose a few pounds.

Another Wonderful Day

What a wonderful day today was. We traveled to meet friends for tea in So. Jersey. It was a lovely visit. We've scheduled another tea for sometime in December up here in our area. I got home at about 4:45pm. I didn't have time to make supper before I had to run an errand for a family member. I went right to church from his home because the Daughters of Mary had their second meeting tonight. We met in the church where we had a recitation of the Rosary and sang a few hymns. After the church service we went downstairs to a meeting. I find the women to be very friendly. One woman remembered me from last month's meeting and sat with me. It was nice to be remembered. We had refreshments at the meeting so I'm calling the piece of cake and the cup of tea I had "supper". I always feel good when I attend these meetings. They fill a spiritual need that I have and I'm also getting to know some of the women in the parish. I look forward to next month's meeting.

A Long Day Tomorrow

It's very quiet here tonight. There's no TV, no music playing and the cats are sleeping. I plan to go to bed at a reasonable hour and to get up early so that I can clean the bathroom and vacuum the living room. I also need to take out the garbage. There's always some kind of a chore waiting to be done. I'll do the rest of the house on Friday because I have plans for the rest of tomorrow. On Saturday I'm hosting Pinochle here. I will bake sometime before my friends arrive. I also need to pick up some beverages. Tomorrow will be a long day because I'm going away for the day with friends and in the evening I have a meeting at church. I hope that I make the meeting because the weather is good and I may miss some of the winter meetings when the weather is bad.

A Very Windy Day

Today is quite a windy day! The power was out for a few hours but it has been restored.
I returned home early this afternoon from taking Mom back home. The power was off when I got here. I'm thankful that it's on again. Now I can cook something for supper and will be able to turn on the lights when it gets dark outside. I'm going with 6 friends to visit 2 other friends in South Jersey tomorrow. We're going to meet at a tearoom. Some of these ladies haven't seen each other in years. It should be a very nice day. The weather will be good as well.

Good Report

Tonight I took Mom back to the doctor. He was pleased with her improvement. I guess I was a good "nurse" to Mom this week. He told us to just keep doing what we've been doing. I feel better now that I got out in the cooler evening air. It was too hot in the house today for me. Mom was comfy, however.
Unfortunately, we learned that her doctor is sick and will be out for the rest of the week. I'll put him on the prayer list. We all need all the prayers we can get.

Needing A Change

It was a long day today. I got up late which is very unusual. I went to 11:30am mass and brought my brother over for a visit. We ordered pizza and read the newspapers. I took him home about 3:00pm. I've been sitting here for awhile trying to decide what I want to do with my Living room. I wish I knew of someone who makes slipcovers because I'd like to have my couch done. The couch is in good shape I'm just tired of looking at it after having it for 15 years. Maybe the furniture needs to be rearranged? Everything seems so boring about the place that I need a change. Maybe the Fen Shui is all wrong in this room. Something doesn't feel right about it. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

A Great Show

We went to the Guild Quilt Show today. It was held in a very small building which is now a museum. The quilts were lovely. We enjoyed walking around looking at each one. My friends took 6 chances on the Raffle Quilt. It is truly a beauty. I also took 6 chances and found out today that I'll be given 5 more books to sell at our next meeting. There's no pressure though, because the drawing isn't for another year. I'd love for one of my friends to win the quilt. I'd love to win it myself. I think that it would look best displayed hanging on a wall. If I put it on a bed, the cats would sit on it. There's too much work put into it to let them sit on it and get their hair on it. I'd opt for a wall hanging display. Next year I will display a quilt in the show. I have an entire year to get one done. I just want it to look great when it's on display. I'm not as expert at quilting as some of the gals in the guild. However, I think that I could come up with something for next year. Keep your fingers crossed.

Change of Plans

Today didn't go as planned. The weather was cold and damp. There was no sun shining. It wasn't conducive to a ride in the country. We decided to go another day when the sun is shining and the leaves are in brilliant color. So, we relaxed at home. After being out in the cold, damp weather yesterday I was convinced that my cold might return. I woke up last night coughing a cough that was reminiscent of the cold I thought I just got over. I guess that fact was a deciding factor in cancelling our plans for the day. I do feel better now. The heat is on in the house. It feels good in here. I knitted for a brief while this evening. I wanted to try to see if I could knit mittens for the kids. I didn't like what I had done so I ripped it all out. I'll try again another day. I think I'll concentrate on the afghan until I get that done.

A Very Busy Day

Today was a very busy day!!! I went to the grocery store, the bank, BB&B, Michael's, and BJ's. In between all that I had my hair trimmed. After supper I drove to my brother's to give him some of the things I bought at BJ's. I've been home about 15 minutes now. I do still need to clean up the kitchen and change the litter box for the cats. After that is all done, I'll cast on the stitches for the last baby afghan I'll be making this year. I may even knit some of the first few rows before I go to bed. Tomorrow we're going to PQW, my favorite quilt shop. I'm taking Mom for a ride in the countryside as we wind our way to the shop. I hope that I can get the Jelly Rolls I want and the correct ruler for cutting the strips. I believe we may have showers tomorrow. The past 2 days have been overcast. I'd really like the sun to shine again. Maybe it will shine on Saturday when we go to the Guild Quilt show. That will be a nice outing. S. & D. will join me for that. I'm looking forward to it. When I was at the craft store, I bought the yarn for making my first Prayer Shawl. I will follow the pattern we were given for the first shawl, but the yarn came with another pattern for a shawl which I'll make the next time I do one. Well, let me get to the kitchen to clean up. The cats get my attention next, then it's on to knitting.

Good Day!

Today I got my car back. It's so much more comfortable to drive. I picked up the mail and was back home at lunchtime. Since I got up so early today, I fell asleep on the couch after lunch. I had a good rest and decided to make Tacos for supper. Mom's been waiting for that all week. The kitchen is all cleaned up now. Mom is reading, and I will do some hobby later. I'm doing some laundry now and only have towels to wash after this load of laundry is done. Tomorrow I get my hair trimmed which I've been waiting to do. It's a bit too long now, but I'm not getting a lot cut off. Tomorrow I have a few chores to do around the house. I have to dust the dining room and get stuff off of the desk in the living room. There's too much mail coming into the house. Some of it is unnecessary. It just adds to the junk on the desk. That's the "stuff" I'm hoping to clear away tomorrow. That'll make room for another weeks worth of junk. Ideally, I suppose the thing to do would be to shred the stuff daily as it comes in. I can't face doing that every day. It's so boring!!

Plans Changed

Today I decided to stay at home and do my chores. Tomorrow I will venture down to get the mail and pick up my car. I did manage to read my book for awhile. I attended to Mom and got her meals for her. I recorded her weight and will do so for the next week. Hopefully, her swollen legs will go down and she'll shed some water weight.
On Thursday I will go to have my hair trimmed. On Friday I'll take Mom for a ride. We'll go to an Open House at my favorite quilt shop. They're going to have a preview of some of the things available for holiday buying. There will be music and refreshments. I found out that they do have some Christmas motif Jelly Rolls. I may buy 1 or 2 if I can. There's a quilt that I'd like to make with them for a gift at the end of November. Somewhere in that Thursday, Friday time frame I'll go to pick up some yarn for the Prayer Shawl. I have 2 coupons for the store. I guess I'll have to make 2 trips since you can only use 1 coupon at a time. 40% off is better than paying full price any day.
I'm hoping to go to the Guild Quilt show on Saturday. Our Raffle quilt will be on display. I guess one can purchase chances if one so desires to do so that day.
I plan to get an early start tomorrow so that I can be home by lunchtime. I'll then get my bills paid and in the mail for the 1st.
One of these days I need to attack my closet and give away some of the things I no longer wear. That's such a huge task. I should just do it and get it over with. I guess that's something I'll do when the mood strikes.

Tired, Tired, Tired!

It was one of those days. Not only did I take Mom's car to get an oil change, but I took her to the doctor. He asked me to bring her back next week. He also asked me to weigh her every day to see if she loses water weight between now and then. Tomorrow I'm going down to get her mail and to bring my car back. I'm TIRED already. I did set up my sewing machine so that I can sew when I have a chance. I'm too tired today to start, but hopefully, on a day when I'm not running around, I can sew. I also know that I need to walk every morning since it's gotten cooler out. In the long run that will give me more stamina and help me to feel better. I'm hoping that it doesn't rain tomorrow because I will walk when I return home with my car. I'm doing Mom's laundry and I need to clean up the kitchen. I intend to relax after that chore.

Sunday In The Rain

Went to 8:30am mass today. I was the Lector. When I returned home I made pancakes and sausage for Mom and I. I had picked up the Sunday Star Ledger because I wanted to see if there'd be a coupon for one of the craft stores in the paper. I need to buy yarn for the knitting group I'm part of now. Luckily, there was a coupon from both of the craft stores which I frequent. I will purchase yarn for one prayer shawl this week. It was a sleepy day today and I didn't accomplish much. I did read for awhile and I found a pattern for knitting mittens for my great nephews and great nieces. I will fit that in somewhere, too. In a few days I have to start the last baby afghan for the year. That gives me two and a half months to finish it. I shouldn't feel rushed by this one although I'm sure it won't take me that long to do. Tomorrow I'm taking Mom home after I have the oil changed in her car. If I have time when I'm at her place, I may paint a bit more on my rose oil painting. Later in the week, I'll do chores aroung the house. On Thursday, I'm finally getting my hair trimmed. I did leave two days open for subbing if something turns up. Haven't seen anything lately. Ideally, I'd like to sub 2 days a week. That would help me out a great deal.

Without A TV

The evenings last longer, or so it seems, without a TV making noise in the background. I'm half way done with the book I'm reading. I am enjoying it. After I take Mom back home I'll also entertain myself with quilting. I have a lot of books to read and many cd's to listen to. It'll be more quiet than I'm use to, but I know I'll survive. I'm kind of liking it without a TV so far. I'm not in a hurry to replace it. Can't wait to get my house in order after my guest leaves. Hopefully, by next weekend, everything will be ship shape.

A Full Weekend

Tomorrow I pick up a friend and head to another friend's for luncheon. The purpose of the luncheon is to present our friend, A., who is visiting from NC, the quilt we made for her. It was made as a going away present since she left our small quilting group when she moved out of state. It's taken 2 years to finish and looks fabulous. I know that she'll love it. It'll be nice to see our long lost friend again and to catch up on her new life's activities. That evening, after dinner, we return to the "scene of the crime" so to speak, to play Pinochle. A. will be gone and our monthly group will get together to play. There will be 6 of us, instead of the usual 5 because we've added the sister of one of the men in our group. We'll play with a partner instead of playing by ourselves. Sometimes this works out better, sometimes not. We haven't played in a couple of months because of a new birth in one couple's family. They were needed out of state. (Why do families spread out so far away?) I'm looking forward to a pleasant evening. It will be nice to be out visiting after being stuck inside for over a week with a cold.

A Cat On Your Lap

It's hard to type with a cat on your lap. I find it necessary to do so from time to time. Coco doesn't want me out of her sight. When she gives me kisses I sometimes think that she's really a puppy. Each cat has a unique personality. I enjoy them but sometimes wish I could escape for an hour or two when I'm in the middle of doing something. Alas, she just jumped down and is napping on the floor. Peace all around. Now I've forgotten what I was going to write about. Oh, well, I guess it wasn't important or I wouldn't have forgotten. Bless the cats and all our pets. They bring us much comfort.
Today the cable company removed the cable box. I waited all day for them to arrive. When I finally purchase a new tv, I'll have the cable reconnected. I can't see paying all that money if I don't have a TV to watch. I'm saving about $70 a month this way. Can put that toward a new tv.
I've been reading a book given to me by a friend. It's called, "Sunday At Tiffany's". I'm enjoying it and am glad to have something to do other than knitting. I'll resume making the baby afghan in October. Thought that I'd take a hiatus for awhile. There is only one more baby afghan to knit, then I'm doing the Prayer Shawls. It's amazing how much you find to occupy your time when you don't have a TV. I think that sometimes I put it on in the evening just because I'm bored. That's not a good reason for watching the "Boob Tube". I have plans to rearrange things in my home. I'm getting tired of looking at everything where it is currently. I hope to have everything done by the beginning of October.

Wednesday is Ending

The back of the week is broken. We are on to Thursday. I went down to get Mom's mail today. She's still sick and will probably stay until Monday. Tomorrow the cable guy is coming to remove the box. Since my TV doesn't work I decided to stop cable service until I get a new TV. Doing that will save me some money. I'm feeling better today. Still have a bit of a cough but hopefully that will be gone soon.
Friday is a free day for me. Don't know what I'll do yet. Saturday I am attending a luncheon in the afternoon and then playing Pinochle at night. I read in Church on Sunday. I have to remember to purchase the SL on Sunday. I need a coupon for a local craft store. I need to buy the yarn for the Knitting Chain. Don't want to purchase it without a coupon. If I could sneak away on Friday I'd like to visit my favorite quilt shop. I want to see if they have any "jelly rolls" with a Christmas motif. I'm not sure how much a "jelly roll" costs these days. I need them to make a quilt I plan to give as a gift in November. Got to get started on it soon. I look forward to getting out of the house for awhile. Hopefully, the sun will also be shining.

Knitting For a Purpose

Tonight I attended a meeting at church. A group of women from The Daughters of Mary are forming a Knitting group. The idea will be for us to knit Prayer Shawls and lap blankets for the sick or shut in of the parish. Right now there are only 8 of us as the group is starting. If we are successful and the group gets larger we may decide to knit for a cancer center or a nursing home. The possibilities are endless. The women in the group were very friendly. I'm finally getting to know some of the people in the parish. I've belonged to the parish since I was 19, but all the people I've known are no longer there. I figured it was time to meet the newer parish members. This group will meet twice a month. I'm looking forward to another reason to knit.

Out and About

Today I ventured outside. It was sort of a 'test' to see if I'll have enough energy to go to a meeting which I should attend this evening. I'm still a bit "out of it", but I think I will go to the meeting. When I went out today, I drove to the Walmart to pick up some vacuum cleaner bags and to price their TV's. I'm not sure if I'll purchase one there, but thought that that would be a good place to start. I may need to go to a store which will remove the old TV and set up the new one. It would be worth the extra money I'd have to pay. I saw a couple I'd like. One was $400. the other was about double that price. I'd probably go with the lower priced item.

Sunday

Read a bit today. It was a beautiful day so I had both doors opened to get the fresh air inside. I feel better today, but not 100% yet. Maybe tomorrow will be the day that I feel like doing cartwheels. (I've never done a cartwheel in my life) However, I could feel like doing one without really doing one.
I've done my nails, will shower in a bit and put fresh sheets on the bed. Tomorrow is another day.

More Of The Same

Today was a day just like every other day this past week. We stayed inside because we were still sick. I opened both doors to air out the place. Did manage to go to the pharmacy for cough medicine and O.J. I missed going to E.'s party because I didn't want to give my cold to any of her guests. Hopefully, she'll bring us some birthday cake tomorrow. I take my last antibiotic pill tomorrow. I hope that's all that is needed to chase this cold away. I'd like to "have a life" next week. I have a meeting on Tuesday evening at church and on Wednesday some friends and I are suppose to go to a concert at the Art Center. If Mom is better on Thursday I'd like to bring her home. I'm busy next Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. On next Sunday it's my turn to read at church. Soooo, go away cold bug, and don't come back.!!!!!

Best Laid Plans

It's strange not having a TV. We've been listening to Joe Scarborough on the radio each day. I like him better on Morning Joe so I can see all the guests. Listening to the radio does enhance ones listening skills. At first, it's easy to get distracted when you are use to seeing and hearing. I've also listened to Imus but haven't listened to anyone else on that station.
Mom's been occupying herself by reading novels which E. brought over. I slept most of the day today. One of these days I'll start quilting again. Missed the all day quilting session at a friend's yesterday. Also missed the retiree breakfast and hitting golf balls on Wednesday. The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.

Missed Meeting

Missed the meeting today so someone else was going to take notes. I hope they type the minutes because I think that would be too hard to do from someone elses notes. The main reason being that I didn't hear what went on at the meeting.
The cold lingers. I'm wondering if it was a combination of the flu and bronchitus? I only have 2 more days of antibiotics to take and I still feel rotten. Have done nothing but sleep all day. I did manage to get a good night's sleep also. Oh, well! This too shall pass.

Sleepless

Last night I was awake all night. I had had a productive day at home doing chores and was excited about my plans for the picture rotation in the living room and dining room. Consequently, I couldn't shut my mind off when I went to bed. I paid the price today, because all I did was make up sleep. My cold seemed worse today also. I'm hoping that tomorrow is better since I have a Quilt Guild meeting at 9:30am. I need to be there to record the minutes of the meeting. I'm the "lucky one" they made secretary this year and probably for next year. I hope I'm successful at my first secretarial position. I've never held that office in any organization before. No, I will never agree to be treasurer of any organization. I have been the President and Vice President in a couple of cases. Being an officer is not my favorite thing to do when I belong to an organization, but if you belong long enough I guess it can't be avoided.

Fall

Next week begins the fall season. I'm hoping that we get some good weather days so I can play a bit of golf. I am tired of the rain. I hope we don't have a snowy winter. Actually, I'd prefer a warm winter season so that I can get out and about if I want to.
Next week sometime I'm going to go through some drawers and my closet to see what I can donate to charity. I'm sure that I have shoes that I don't wear anymore or that don't fit. There are some dressy clothes which I'll never wear again. There are also some things which I just haven't worn for awhile that I can give up. It'll be a task which I'm sure will take a couple of days, but it'll be worth all the labor when I gain space in my closet and drawers. I wish someone would show me how to use ebay because some of the things may be desirable to someone out there. Making a few bucks wouldn't be bad either.

Feeling Better

Today I'm feeling a little bit better. I had more energy to do some things around the house. I took down some pictures which I'm tired of looking at and put up a few others. Did some laundry and made a pile of summer clothes to give to the good will. I need to make a couple of phone calls tonight, but I may call it an early night and go to bed before my usual bedtime.

Sick And Tired

Have been sick for a few days which is why I've not written anything for awhile. Went to the doc yesterday and have meds for what ails me. Took Mom to the doc also. She is also ill. I had so much planned for the rest of this week. It's going to put a damper on my fun.
We were going to go to the retiree breakfast tomorrow and then go to hit a bucket of balls. Don't know if I'll have the energy to do that tomorrow. Too bad I don't have a crystal ball. Thursday is all day quilting. Friday is our first meeting of the quilt guild. I need to go to that meeting since I'm the secretary this year. I hate to cancel on friends, but I think I'm going to have to do so at least for tomorrow. Maybe we'll get to play golf again next week or at least go to the driving range. We'll see.

Time To Relax!

Today was a busy day. I'm glad to be home now. It's early but I've gotten into my night gown and slippers. My cold continues to be a nuisance. I'm hoping that it gets better on it's own because I don't want to go to the doctor.
I just returned from a friend's home. I went there to feed their cat while they enjoy some time out. On the way back home I picked up food for my cats so that they too could eat. I've put on nice music and hope to relax a bit before an early bedtime.
I've been without a TV for about 2 weeks so far. Sometime this coming week I will go to look at what is available out there and also to see what is within my budget. I'd like to get the TV before I replace the printer. I'm willing to wait longer for that. I'm taking a break from knitting for a couple of weeks. Hope to get back to quilting later in the week. I have a busy week coming up. I'm glad that the rain will end. We're suppose to have nice weather in the 70's and 80's.

A Nice Visit

My college friend and I met for lunch at the Cock and Bull restaurant in Peddler's Village today. I enjoyed the visit and seeing J. again. After lunch we walked in and out of some of the shops. It was raining and misting and made me feel miserable since I started to get a cold after being out in yesterday's rain. I'm hoping that if I go to bed early tonight and get a good night's sleep, I'll feel better in the morning. I can relax tonight and do NOTHING if I choose to because I'm finished with the 6th knitted afghan and I don't have to start the 7th one until about October or November. I'm listening to music and am so grateful to be in out of the rain. Wish I had a real fireplace. It's that kind of a day.

Great Meeting Tonight

The Daughters of Mary met tonight at our church. We attended mass before the meeting. It was a beautiful mass. Father invited us all to come up onto the altar during the consecration. After receiving communion we returned to our seats. The music was lovely. Mary, the gal who sang at the mass, has a beautiful voice. The meeting was held in the hall. I signed up for the "Knitting Chain" committee I'm not quite sure what that is yet or what it will entail. The only thing we were told is that "obviously, you have to know how to knit". I've certainly gotten enough practice with that this year! I also signed up to be on the hospitality committee. There will be an overnight retreat this year which I hope to attend. I managed to pay my dues tonight so I won't have to be concerned about that anymore. I met 3 new people tonight. I like the women in the group. They are down to earth and very welcoming. I returned home quite happy that I had attended the meeting.
