Here We Come!

Next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend. It's the beginning of the summer beach season at the shore and at most swimming pools. That means that the traffic going south down the parkway will be heavier than usual on Friday, Saturday and Sunday until after the Labor Day weekend which is the end of the beach season. Coming home going north on the parkway is tricky in the summer. You have to start home early or you tend to get in a mess of traffic going north. I remember a picture on the front of the Asbury Park Press when my mother first moved south. It showed the Driscoll Bridge and the heavy traffic coming south over the bridge. The caption on the picture said, "Here They Come". The article called the invaders "BENYS" which stands for Bergen, Essex and New York. I understand that further south in NJ, they have their own acronym for their invaders. But isn't it fun? And aren't you glad that we visitors bring our business south during the summer? I've always loved the NJ shore even though I am not a swimmer. I'm a walker on the beach or the boards. I love the atmosphere and the sound of the surf. Long live the New Jersey Shore!!!
