Spelling Mistakes!

Yes, I was a good speller all through school. Then I taught 2nd grade for 18 years. My good spelling skills went out the door. Not because I didn't know the "rules" for spelling in American English, but because I looked at second grade spelling for 18 years. It is truly amazing how many creative ways children find to "spell" when writing a story or even a sentence. When you see misspelled words daily, and for that long, you begin to question if you know how to spell anything. I use to think that you were born a good speller or not. But like they say, nothing good lasts forever.
